Department Summary

The Rocky Mountain Jewish Historical Society (RMJHS), part of the Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Denver, was founded in 1976.  Our mission is to educate the public about the history of Jewish life in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West. Partnering with the Ira M. & Peryle Hayutin Beck Memorial Archives at DU, the Center works to promote a richer understanding of Jewish history in the Mountain West region through lectures, exhibits, digital resources, travel programs, and research opportunities. We serve a broad constituency of educators, students, academic researchers, genealogists, filmmakers, curators, and general audiences. Our work showcases the contributions of Jews to the development of the West, documents the struggle against antisemitism in the region, and examines the ever-evolving dynamics of Jewish life in Colorado and the surrounding states.
