Department Summary

The University of Denver Libraries, comprised of the Main Library at the Anderson Academic Commons, a remote storage facility called the Hampden Center, and the Bonfils Stanton Music Library in the Newman Center, is a highly collaborative organization that serves a diverse population, ranging from our students, staff, and faculty to public and other academic patrons from the surrounding region. The Anderson Academic Commons is the campus centerpiece for collaborative teaching, learning, and engagement. The University of Denver Libraries are central to discovery and creative interaction among students and faculty, and provide collections, services, personnel, and systems that support the teaching and research programs of the University. Position Summary

The University of Denver Hampden Center seeks a knowledgeable and enthusiastic information technician. The candidate will process multi-format collections, use descriptive taxonomies in the processing and rehousing of physical collections, and will further add inventory control to the processed material by using a local organizational schema specific to the Hampden Center. May act as a backup for the daily operations of the Hampden Center in retrieving materials for DU patrons using the organizational schema and Alma.

This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Essential Functions

In addition to the basic materials’ management that all members of the Hampden Center perform on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, this position is reserved for those that can use a special combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities in order to:

  • Lead projects and push teams toward time-sensitive goals.
  • Serving as the point of contact for the department as a whole on projects they are directly responsible for leading.
  • Improve service standards through procedural, systematic, and/or interpersonal means.
  • Lead certain areas of our materials’ management assuring quality control and reporting those findings to the Supervisor.
  • Work more directly with other departmental liaisons on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis to develop a unique sense of this department’s role within the Library.
  • Serve as a leader by being responsible for safety, security, arming, and unlocking the Hampden Center, occasionally, without a supervisor on-site.
  • Commit to continuous improvement activities that are process and goal focused.

Skills, Knowledge, and Ability

  • Have the ability to work independently.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and at least 21 years of age and must be willing and able to operate a University vehicle and an aerial lift (after on-site training).
  • Able to work in both a typical office environment and a warehouse environment.
  • Ability to lift boxes up to 25-50 pounds, stand, bend, kneel, push, pull, and use ladders to perform the work.

Required Qualifications

  • Have previous information or materials’ processing experience.
  • If 21 years of age, have a valid driver's license, pass the defensive driving course, and must be willing and able to operate a University vehicle and an aerial lift (after on-site training). Those under 21 will not transport materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible for a federal work-study, which requires eligibility through the Financial Aid Office. This position is also open to non-work study funded students. 

This position requires 20 hours per week for fall, winter and spring quarters with flexibility in scheduling.

In compliance with Colorado’s Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA),non-benefited employees accrue one hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.

Work schedule

Monday - Friday, Part-Time.

The hourly range for the position is $19.30 –19.82.
