DEI Faculty Director, College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
CAHSS seeks a DEI faculty director who will be responsible for strategic oversight of CAHSS initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The director serves as the main point person for faculty, departments, staff, and the Dean’s Office, and liaises with University DEI offices as appropriate.
The position has a one-year term, with a one course release per academic year and an annual stipend of $10,000. The position begins as close to July 1, 2025 as possible and ends on June 30, 2026. (Pending funding, the position may be renewable for a second year.)
The CAHSS DEI faculty director will report to the Senior Associate Dean and must be a permanent appointed faculty member in CAHSS at the tenured or TPF associate or full level. The Director will work closely with other members of the Dean’s Office.
Essential Functions:
- Convene and chair the CAHSS DEI Committee for its regular and grant review meetings.
- Collaborate with the CAHSS DEI Committee to develop and make progress on its annual action plan, and update the Senior Associate Dean and CAHSS community on that progress.
- Collaborate with the CAHSS DEI Committee to review CAHSS DEI grant applications and work with faculty/staff applicants to identify, develop, and refine funded ideas and projects.
- Lead a College-level committee review of CAHSS’ DEI plan, and present recommended updates to the Dean’s Office and the College community.
- Hold office hours for CAHSS community members, to enable faculty, staff, and students to drop in and obtain consultation on emergent issues and opportunities.
- Visit departmental and staff offices as appropriate, to share updates with faculty and staff and discuss issues of importance to departments and offices.
- Attend Chairs & Directors meetings quarterly to provide updates and discuss emergent issues and opportunities.
- Represent CAHSS on any University DEI-focused bodies and liaise with the Division of DEI as appropriate.
- Meet monthly with the Senior Associate Dean to discuss progress on goals and any emergent issues or opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Senior Associate Dean and other Dean’s Office colleagues to organize at least one DEI-related faculty and staff professional development workshop annually.
- Work with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to identify and apply for external funding opportunities that could support CAHSS' College-level DEI work.
- Work with the CAHSS Advancement team to identify and cultivate philanthropic funding opportunities that could support CAHSS' College-level DEI work.
Required Qualifications
- Tenured or TPF associate or full professor appointment in CAHSS.
- Demonstrated experience in supporting and developing DEI practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in supporting and developing DEI practices in CAHSS.
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring minoritized faculty, staff, and/or students.
- Demonstrated experience in program development and implementation.
- Demonstrated success in obtaining external funding.
- Demonstrated experience in community engagement.
- Demonstrated commitment to department and/or College service.
- Relevant scholarly expertise.
- Intercultural competencies as demonstrated by language proficiency, research or teaching area, or other areas of professional experience or expertise.
Working Environment
- Standard office environment.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities
- Ability to work in front of a computer for an extended period.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus

Salary Range:
Annual stipend of $10,000 and one course release.
