Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Vice Provost (SVP), the Interim Manager of Research Contracts and Grants will be responsible for leading and managing the post award accounting functions of the Research Contracts and Grants department in ORSP.

Current Position Duties

All duties currently required by this individual are not eliminated or altered as a result of taking on the interim manager role. Below is a short list of expectations of the current position that will remain in effect:

  • Provide Principal Investigators (PI) with guideline interpretation and communicate with sponsors regarding any clarification that is needed.
  • Engage with PIs to develop budget, assuring that all potential costs have been identified and justified, including salaries, fringe benefits, indirect costs, cost-share, etc.
  • Prepare and submit all necessary sponsor forms as required by regulations, university policy, and sponsors.
  • Provide all internal documents requested by agencies.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of grants, contracts and subcontracts with sponsors and subcontractors to assure compliance with federal regulations and university policies and procedures.
  • Prepare agreements, obtaining departmental approvals for institutional signatures.
  • Assure that all research compliance issues have been completed and resolved prior to acceptance.
  • Ensure that awards are properly entered and reflected in databases.
  • Monitor milestones and deliverables and work with faculty and staff to satisfy sponsor requirements.
  • Work with ORSP staff to ensure that the award is managed in compliance with all regulations, policies and requirements and close out funds in accordance with these regulations, policies and requirements.
  • Extensive and effective communication with PIs and departmental staff.
  • Recommend and implement system improvements such as Banner, Concur, and InfoEd, in addition to data management needs.

Interim Manager Duties

The following duties are supplemental to the normal position as interim manager.

  • Serve as the lead and primary point of contact for the research administration team for sponsor audits and all university audits related to research.
  • Manage contract and grant research administration processes by providing oversight, supervision, and direction to the research administration team.
  • Meet and collaborate with the directors of ORSP to effectively accomplish the goals and objectives in the changing landscape of research administration. 
  • Create and maintain a positive work climate while achieving objectives.
  • Analyze the impact of federal regulatory changes on the University, and when necessary, develop, modify, and implement policy and/or processes to respond to new regulatory requirements.
  • Represent the Research Administration team throughout the University, whether in university-wide meetings, working groups, or initiatives related to research administration, compliance, and system improvements.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback to team members to support professional development and ensure high-functioning operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

M-F, 8-4:30 (hybrid/remote options available)

Salary Range

The salary range for the position is $85,000 - $90,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
