These are temporary positions that support Faculty Affairs priorities. The purpose of these positions is to develop faculty leaders and to extend the capacity of the Office for Faculty Affairs. The specific position below is developed from a previous mentorship program designed by the DU-MERISTEM team, intended to support new hires in the STEM schools (CNSM and RSECS) and other “hard science” faculty across campus who would benefit. This includes all faculty lines, including both teaching and tenure track.
Goals, tasks, and deliverables: Fellows and Faculty Affairs staff will agree on a range of goals, tasks, and deliverables based on the original application, priorities and mission, and feasibility, and both parties will sign a copy of this contract.
- Expectations: The Faculty Affairs Fellow for STEM Mentorship will provide 10% effort of a full time-equivalency (FTE) toward the following activities:
- Coordinate with the Office for Faculty Affairs, the College of Natural Science and Mathematics administration, and the Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science administration on identifying new faculty and potential mentors to engage in the cohort.
- Lead a new STEM faculty mentoring cohort that engages new faculty and approximately 2-3 STEM mentors.
- Facilitate the STEM faculty mentoring cohort participants’ engagement in mentoring activities across campus, in topical trainings, and through offering consultative support. There should be at least one formal group activity or training per quarter.
- Coordinate with the New Faculty Academy, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, the Division of Community Support and Engagement, the Accessibility Council, the Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL); and EOIX (Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX) on broader mentoring initiatives.
- Contribute to reports, the Faculty Affairs newsletter and other campus-wide communications to provide updates to community.
- Other duties as assigned/needed
- Eligibility: open to all full-time, appointed tenured faculty employed by the University of Denver.
- Term: each faculty fellow is expected to serve for one calendar year, with a possibility of renewal for up to an additional year.
- Summer service: Although positions do extend over summer, formal meetings and events will be limited outside of the academic year, with the exception of a yearly half-day fellow retreat, usually held in August.
- Selection: Fellows are asked to provide (1) cover letter, (2) curriculum vitae, and (3) an email from your Chair indicating their support. Please submit these materials by the deadlines posted on Jobs@DU. Candidates who meet the required qualifications will complete a brief interview with VPFA staff and/or current fellows, which will be evaluated using a rubric aligned to the “essential functions, knowledge, skills, and abilities; and required/preferred qualifications” in the job posting.” Their department chair (if applicable) and dean will also need to indicate via email that they approve of the faculty member taking this position.
