About the role
Working closely with the Customer and Marketing Office and the Community Strengthening Department, this role leads the implementation of the City’s community engagement policy. You will design and implement community engagement strategies that empower the organisation to effectively engage with and gather insights from the community. Your initiatives will ensure meaningful participation, allowing the community to contribute valuable input and actively guide decision-making by the Council and the City.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and coordinate a team of people on specific projects, activities and processes relevant to community engagement.
- Initiate, implement, influence and respond positively to changes in the work environment and/or parameters of a specific project.
- Develop and deliver the unit’s annual Business Plans in line with the Directorate’s Strategy; balancing value for our community and customers, within the financial and resource constraints.
- Implement systems, processes, and workflows to deliver results, ensuring relevant policies, governance mechanisms, and regulations are adhered to.
- Design and implement effective community engagement plans and initiatives to support the organisation to seek community input on key projects.
- Provide expert advice to the organisation regarding best practice community engagement.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will be comfortable liaising with a diverse range of people, with high levels of resilience and attention to detail. You will have a highly engaging personality, enjoy problem solving and identifying practical solutions to complex issues.
Essential Experience:
- Qualification in community development and/or community engagement, or extensive experience.
- Expert knowledge of IAP2 and contemporary community engagement techniques and practices.
- Extensive experience in implementing community engagement initiatives in a complex and high-profile environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and persuasion skills with maturity, discretion and judgement in a complex administrative and political environment.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage and maintain complex relationships with stakeholders.
- Excellent project management skills.
