About the role
We are seeking an experienced Maternal and Child Health [MCH] nurse, dedicated to supporting vulnerable families. The successful candidate will manage a case load and will receive continuous professional support through their tenure.
You will provide a flexible and intensive support for vulnerable families, to support the goal of the Victorian Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Program to improve the health and wellbeing of children across the Geelong community. Improve outcomes for vulnerable families experiencing significant early parenting difficulties and children identified as being at risk of harm.
Deliver a structured, comprehensive and targeted approach to the early intervention and prevention of physical, emotional and social challenges affecting young children and their families.
Work type: Permanent Full Time
Classification: MCH Year 3 to Year 4 + EMCH allowance
Key responsibilities include:
- The provision of an Enhanced Maternal & Child Health (EMCH) service delivered within the service program standards and framework.
- Have a commitment to the provision of a quality service and continuous improvement.
- Maintain professional knowledge and skills.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with relevant services with a collaborative approach.
- Meet all requirements in respect to service agreements and relevant legislation.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced Maternal & Child Health Nurse with a minimum of 2-4 years experience.
Essential Experience:
- Knowledge of normal early childhood health & development, ability to assess the needs of all families with children aged 0-3 years and implement evidence based intervention strategies.
- Understanding of the effects of differing parenting/lifestyles on the health and wellbeing outcomes of the infant/child.
- Demonstrated knowledge of childhood immunisation.
- Knowledge and experience in supporting breast feeding women.
- Ability to engage families and influence change in parenting behaviours.
- Commitment to infant focused, family centred practice and ongoing professional development.
- Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check and a pre-employment medical assessment as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
