About the role
The City of Greater Geelong has three (3) Traineeship opportunities available in our Early Childhood Education centres. These opportunities are for a 12 month period, with the possibility of ongoing employment on the completion of the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education. Trainees will be supported to enrol with The Gordon TAFE through the City’s partnership.

The opportunities are as follows –

  • City Learning & Care – Ariston (Newtown) – Part Time (Wed, Thurs, Fri – 8hrs per day)
  • City Learning & Care Belmont – Full Time (Mon to Fri – 8hrs per day)
  • Boorai Centre (Ocean Grove) – Part Time (Mon to Thur – 8hrs per day)

Work type: Temporary Part Time / Full Time (12 month Traineeship)
Classification: Band 1D Commencing at $65,844 pa plus super (Pro Rata)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist in providing a safe, secure, hygienic, and inclusive environment for children.
  • Learn and apply standard processes, systems, and tools used in early childhood education.
  • Support qualified educators in ensuring each child can access and participate in the program, considering their background, interests, learning styles, strengths, and abilities.
  • Assist room leaders and educators in the delivery of a play-based program and curriculum.
  • Assist in observing children's learning and maintaining records under the supervision of a qualified educator.
  • Complete required course work and assignments.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a genuine interest in working in the Childcare sector, with a friendly and outgoing personality. You will have good time management and planning skills and enjoy engaging with a diverse range of people

Essential Experience:

  • Commitment to completing required training and work placement hours.
  • Interest in working in early childhood education.
  • Communication skills, including the ability to follow instructions, demonstrate good written and verbal skills, and have basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to work, plan and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to take direction and feedback from experienced educators to improve skills.   
  • Preferred candidates will require a Working with Children Check (WWCC) and be willing to undergo a National Police Check and a pre-employment medical assessment as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
