About the role
In this role, you'll provide technical leadership across core infrastructure technologies, including compute, storage, networking, identity, and cloud services, ensuring our platforms are resilient, secure, and built for the future. Working at the heart of our technology team, you'll help deliver reliable, well-governed solutions that empower the organisation and support its evolving business needs.
You'll bring strong hands-on expertise across enterprise infrastructure technologies, combined with experience in cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure (and/or AWS or Oracle Cloud) and Microsoft 365. As a trusted technical expert, you'll help drive our technology transformation through cloud adoption, infrastructure modernisation, automation, security enhancements, and continuous optimisation, while ensuring our core platforms remain stable, reliable, and highly available.
You'll also play an important leadership role by mentoring fellow engineers, sharing technical expertise, and championing continuous improvement across our infrastructure and cloud services.
Work type: 2-year fixed term contract.
Classification: Band 8, $125,701+ super.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to infrastructure and cloud team members, building capability and shared knowledge.
- Design, implement, and support enterprise infrastructure and cloud platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
- Provide senior‑level troubleshooting and resolution of complex infrastructure and cloud issues.
- Manage and support core technologies including servers, virtualisation, storage, networking, identity, and cloud services.
- Implement and maintain automation and infrastructure‑as‑code where appropriate to improve consistency and efficiency.
- Ensure infrastructure and cloud environments adhere to security standards, policies, and compliance requirements.
- Support cloud adoption and modernisation initiatives, including migrations and platform upgrades.
- Collaborate with cyber security teams to implement security controls, monitor risks, and respond to incidents.
- Maintain awareness of emerging infrastructure and cloud technologies, providing recommendations to improve service delivery and platform maturity.
- Support and improve monitoring, alerting, and observability across infrastructure and cloud services.
- Manage Microsoft 365 environments including EntraID, Exchange, Office, and other M365 collaboration products and services.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field and/or significant professional experience in senior infrastructure and/or cloud engineering roles within a comparable organisation.
Essential Experience:
- Demonstrated experience supporting and managing hybrid infrastructure environments (on‑premises and cloud).
- Experience implementing and operating cloud platforms, with a strong understanding of cloud security practices and protocols.
- Experience designing, implementing, and supporting Microsoft Azure cloud services within enterprise or hybrid environments.
- Experience administering and supporting Microsoft 365 services, including core collaboration, identity, and productivity platforms.
- Proven experience working with cross‑functional IT teams to deliver complex technical initiatives.
- Solid background in system administration, including configuring and maintaining operating systems, networking, and identity services.
- Experience optimising infrastructure and cloud environments for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
Essential Experience:
Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police and Working with Children’s Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
