We’re searching for a driven, relationship-focused Key Account Manager to take ownership of our fastest growing channel: remote and independent travel agents and consortia.

You will be responsible for creating, executing and evolving strategic plans across independent consortia and home-based agents, working closely with the Head of Sales, BDMs, Trade Marketing and Sales Support, to ensure a unified go-to-market approach.

You’ll have full ownership of agent engagement across this channel, tailoring programs, activity and plans to drive performance. You’ll act as a strategic connector, where retail and home-based collide, and be a key voice for the independent channel.

You’ll thrive on autonomy, relish digital engagement, and still love getting on the road for national events, store visits and maybe even the occasional overseas trip!

This role may be based either Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne.

 

 

What you will be doing:

Key Account Management

  • Own a portfolio of home-based and independent agents/consortia, segmenting by potential and tailoring account plans accordingly
  • Track, analyse and report on account performance using CRM, booking data, and sales metrics
  • Drive year‑on‑year sales growth against aggressive targets
  • Develop annual partner plans and regular reviews and actionable insights to stakeholders
  • Assist in building training content and product pitch tools that help agents sell with confidence
  • Build relationships via regular phone check-ins, emails, webinars, virtual training, and in-person events
  • Represent Back-Roads and Topdeck at expos, conferences, trade events and networking sessions, strengthening brand visibility and generating new leads
  • Lead campaign engagement and collaborate with trade marketing to deliver best-in-class B2B communications
  • Identify and unlock opportunities for co-op marketing, famils, or bespoke campaigns that align with the overall sales strategy
  • Escort Travel Agent familiarisation trips on Back-Roads Tours and Topdeck

 

Sales Leadership & Team Support

  • Work closely with the Head of Sales, share market intelligence, and shape activity across key independent and home-based agents and consortia
  • Act as lead on independent and home-based channel support, coaching BDMs on retail aspects where consortia overlap
  • Support with upskilling of state-based BDMs through workshops, team calls and ride‑alongs to grow the strength of the team
  • Assist in building training content and product pitch tools that help agents sell with confidence
  • Support Head of Sales in onboarding/training of new sales staff and champion a high-performance, collaborative, and values-driven culture
  • Contribute to cross-functional projects, lending sales insights for Marketing, Product or Operations as required, to support achieving collective company and team targets

 

What you will need:

  • 5 + years in travel industry sales with demonstrable success managing national or multi‑state accounts
  • Proven track record of growing revenue through remote relationship management - you’re as comfortable closing on Teams/Zoom as you are in person
  • Confident, engaging presenter and public speaker (webinars, workshops, large‑scale events)
  • Advanced CRM proficiency (Salesforce or similar) and solid grasp of Office 365 / Google Workspace
  • Demonstrate strong commercial awareness, using insights into product value, customer needs, and market dynamics to support business growth
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple partner campaigns, activations or initiatives simultaneously
  • Ability to juggle shifting priorities and stay solutions-focused under pressure or ambiguity
  • Natural mentor: you enjoy sharing knowledge, giving constructive feedback and celebrating team wins
  • Positive, solutions‑focused mindset with the creativity to “think outside the box” and the discipline to execute
  • First‑hand destination knowledge of the UK & Europe is essential, North America and Asia highly desirable
  • Your own vehicle for which you will be compensated
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours as required to represent Back-Roads Touring and Topdeck at travel expos, conduct training seminars, or as required, to attend any other reasonable promotional events
  • Be prepared to travel long distances, occasional interstate and international travel, and occasionally work away from home as required
