
About the Opportunity
AVMIN is one of Australia's leading air charter specialists and part of the Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) portfolio of brands, sitting within the Supply division. AVMIN delivers tailored charter aviation solutions across FIFO (mining & resources), Government and Defence, Sports & Groups, AVMIN Private Collection (luxury / HNW), Medevac and Evacuation, Cargo & Freight, Airport Management and Television & Film, operating through an extensive partner operator network.
The Head of Finance is responsible for the day-to-day financial management of AVMIN, with a focus on operational financial excellence: month-end close, statutory reporting, balance sheet integrity, working capital, audit, tax, payroll and compliance with FCTG group standards.
Working closely with the Managing Director, the Head of Finance will provide reliable, accurate and timely financial information to support business decisions and ensure FCTG group reporting and compliance requirements are met.
Location: Brisbane or Melbourne - occasional travel between Brisbane and Melbourne or operational sites as required
What you will do:
Financial Management & Reporting
- Own and complete the month-end General Ledger close process for AVMIN, including journals, accruals, prepayments and inter-company entries
- Prepare monthly Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and cash flow reporting with clear commentary and variance analysis for the MD
- Submit monthly results to FCTG Supply Finance in line with group timelines and minimum standards
- Prepare the annual budget and quarterly forecasts in conjunction with the MD
- Provide financial information, ad-hoc analysis and reporting to support the MD's decisions on operations, pricing and contracts
Financial Control & Compliance
- Review and sign-off all balance sheet reconciliations; ensure risks to the balance sheet are understood and minimised
- Maintain and continually improve AVMIN's control environment
- Ensure compliance with company policies, Australian Accounting Standards and FCTG minimum standards for financial systems and processes
- Lead engagement with external auditors as required
- Oversee tax compliance including GST, FBT, PAYG, working with FCTG Group Tax
- Stay current with relevant accounting standards changes and implement as required
Operational Finance & Business Support
- Manage transactional accounting cycles – AP, AR, revenue recognition (including charter deposits, partner operator settlements and Government contract billing)
- Full responsibility for payroll operation and control
- Manage AVMIN's working capital, including AR collections and AP cycle, in conjunction with FCTG Shared Services where applicable
- Support pricing reviews and margin analysis on jobs, contracts and tenders as required
- Provide finance support for major bid and tender activity
- Build and maintain reporting that gives the MD visibility on segment performance and customer profitability
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase finance team efficiency and reduce manual effort
- Develop and maintain a strong control environment, with particular attention to revenue recognition, customer credit risk, deposits and partner operator settlements
- Identify and manage financial and operational risk, ensuring appropriate insurance, contractual protections and escalation paths are in place
Cash Flow, Treasury & Working Capital
- Manage AVMIN's cash flow and working capital including customer deposits, prepayments and partner operator settlements
- Optimise liquidity in conjunction with FCTG Group Treasury and ensure availability of funds for operational and strategic needs
Leadership, Team & Culture
- Lead, develop and mentor the Assistant Accountant
- Collaborate effectively with AVMIN operational teams, FCTG Shared Services and auditors
- Champion FCTG philosophies, values and culture within AVMIN
- Build strong working relationships across FCTG Supply Finance and Group functions
What you will need:
- Minimum 5+ years' post-qualification finance experience, including at least 2 years in a Finance Manager, Financial Controller or Senior Accountant role
- Strong end-to-end month-end close and statutory reporting experience
- Experience reporting into an ASX-listed or large group structure preferred
- Aviation, transport, logistics or service industry experience desirable but not essential
- Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring a junior team member
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related discipline
- CA or CPA qualification
