Senior Project Engineer

About the Role:

As an experienced and proactive Senior Project Engineer, you will be working on Water, Sewer, Gas, Electrical & Civil Infrastructure projects across SE QLD. The diversity of works ranges from civil infrastructure including but not limited to new reservoirs builds, remediation to existing concrete structures, pump stations build, pipelines construction, underground utilities.

The ideal candidate should possess experience or exposure to the Construction Industry and have worked on Civil, Utilities, and Water Infrastructure projects.

Permanent, Monday to Friday, located in Eagle Farm with some regional projects.  This is an office-based based but will be required to attend the site at least once per week (80/20) – office/site

In addition to working with a skilled and efficient team, the selected candidate will have continuous project exposure, facilitating the further development of technical and project management skills. Opportunity to get exposure to tender bids and submissions. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand the Project scope and ensure cost-effective construction methodologies are implemented. Provide solutions, opportunities, and flag areas of improvement to the Project Manager.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of client specifications and identify contractual risks and opportunities. Identify and prepare variations and claims for review and approval by the Project Manager.
  • Review the validity of subcontractor claims within the commercial framework. Prepare subcontracts for the Project Manager's review.
  • Contribute to the accurate maintenance of the project finances through review and approval of invoices for labor and materials. Review project costs against budget and highlight all impacts to margin and corrective actions to the Project Manager.
  • Ensure materials and services meet required specifications and QA requirements. Continually complete and issue required QA documentation as well as final QA documentation.
  • Complete handover of all project documentation and review and close out defect claims.
  • Liaise with the client's representative and subcontractors to resolve technical, commercial and scheduling issues. Escalating (where required) and communicating issues and achievements to the Project Manager.
  • Prepare and plan procurement activities. Ensure labor and equipment is organised for Supervisors and their crews to complete works.
  • Develops ITPs and ITCs, monitors and audits against the Project's Quality Management Plan and Diona’s policies and procedures, ensuring both Diona Teams and Subcontractors are compliant.
  • Monitor and assess risks and hazards involved in tasks and implement hazard management to prevent incidents, injury, and damage. Contribute to and support Incident investigation through active participation and respond in a positive manner to the reporting of incidents, concerns or unplanned events.
  • Lead safety behavior by setting high standards, challenging and improving, maintaining open communication and providing safety support and performance feedback to all project team members and subcontractors.
  • Lead safety culture through delivery or participation in daily pre-starts and toolbox talks, identify potential risks and stop works for safety concerns.
  • Contribute to environmental management through review of CEMP including all sub plans, review of environmental control drawings, identification of no-go zones, review of environmental control procedures prior to activity and work method statements.
  • Develop detailed knowledge of and apply all responsibilities outlined in the project management plans (PMP, QMP, SMP, CEMP, WRMP). Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure compliance against project management plans.
  • Undertake any ad-hoc projects, initiatives, tasks as directed by the Project Manager.

Qualifications & Experience:

    • 5-7 years as a Senior Project Engineer in the Construction Industry (Civil, Utilities and Water Infrastructure projects preferred).
    • Bachelor of Engineering degree (4-year duration) accredited by Engineers Australia at the level of Professional Engineer, or equivalent engineering body.
    • Must hold a valid driver’s license and a general Construction Induction Card (White Card)
    • Strong safety leadership capability.
    • Effective verbal and written communication capability.
    • High level of personal resilience and persistence.
    • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
    • Excellent conflict resolution management skills.
    • Ability and willingness to adapt, quickly learn, and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing structure,
    • process, information, and/or technology.
    • Excellent relationship building, problem solving, negotiation, and leadership skills.
    • Experience in estimation costing for projects and working to a budget.
    • A sound understanding and knowledge of construction principles in a multi-disciplinary contracting environment.
    • A sound level of business and commercial acumen backed by a sound ability to create, read, and interpret budgets, financial statements and analyse variance reports.
