A bit about the role

As a strategic leader, you will guide a dedicated team in shaping prosperous, vibrant, and liveable new communities within Casey’s growth areas, through the effective and timely delivery of statutory planning services.

You will actively foster and contribute to a culture of innovation, empowerment, and engagement within the Growth and Investment Department, supporting a collaborative and forward-thinking team environment.

What you’ll deliver 

  • Lead and inspire the planning team, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and customer focus.
  • Provide expert oversight and guidance across Council’s development approval processes.
  • Oversee statutory planning operations, ensuring compliance with policy, legislation, and service standards.
  • Manage complex and major planning applications, including project coordination and decision-making.
  • Represent Council in tribunals, hearings, and stakeholder negotiations.
  • Contribute to strategic planning initiatives, policy development, and continuous service improvement.
  • Monitor performance, manage resources, and implement training and development programs for staff.
  • Serve as a key contact for stakeholders, delivering consistent advice and support on planning matters.

What you’ll bring 

  • A degree or diploma in Town Planning, Urban Studies or Urban Geography with several years of relevant experience.
  • Proven senior-level expertise in major project planning, with a strong background in growth area planning considered highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and coach a team of staff and consultants to meet priorities and targets.
  • Robust expertise in stakeholder and community engagement, with a track record of achieving positive, collaborative planning outcomes through effective consultation and negotiation.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, Eligibility to Work check and Psychometric Testing
  • A curious, collaborative, and inclusive community mindset.
