A bit about the role
As part of an expert team, you will formulate and manage development plans and amendments to the Casey Planning Scheme, ensuring they align with Victoria's and the City of Casey’s planning objectives and respond to changing circumstances.
Play a key role in developing, maintaining, and refining a policy and regulatory framework that ensures the effective use, development, and protection of land within the City of Casey.
What you’ll deliver
- Take a lead in developing and overseeing major land use and development strategies, managing complex planning issues within defined scope, output, timeline, and budget.
- Assess and administer planning scheme amendments and development plans; represent the Council at Planning Panels, Advisory Committees, VCAT, and other forums.
- Contribute to the monitoring, maintenance, and reform of the Casey Planning Scheme.
- Liaise with government agencies, community organisations, and other stakeholders with respect to land use planning, development issues, and strategic projects.
- Plan and lead community engagement activities to gather input and inform planning processes.
- Prepare briefs, engage, and manage external consultants for strategic planning and legal matters, while supervising and coordinating other departmental staff.
- Provide high-level technical support to the Manager, Head of Planning & Compliance, and Team Leader of Strategic Planning & Reform on both strategic and statutory issues.
What you’ll bring
- Extensive experience as a Strategic Town Planner.
- Proven experience in project management, strategy development and policy formulation and reform.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor team members.
- Relevant qualifications in Town Planning, Urban Studies or Urban Geography or related field.
- Local government experience will be an advantage.
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check & Eligibility to Work check.
- A curious, collaborative, and inclusive community mindset.
