About the Role

As the Social Policy and Planning Lead – Affordable Housing, you will lead strategic social planning initiatives that address complex community challenges, with a strong focus on affordable housing and homelessness.

This role has broad scope across policy development, advocacy, community education and project delivery, including supporting affordable housing outcomes through Council land initiatives and partnerships with registered housing agencies.

You will drive evidence-based policy, lead complex projects, and collaborate across Council and with external partners to improve community wellbeing.

What You’ll Deliver

  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of social policies, strategies and action plans, with a focus on affordable housing and homelessness
  • Manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects, ensuring alignment with Council priorities and measurable outcomes
  • Provide expert policy and planning advice, including data analysis, social impact assessments and evidence-based recommendations
  • Drive cross-organisational collaboration and embed social planning approaches across departments
  • Lead advocacy, submissions and briefings to influence policy and investment outcomes
  • Support and facilitate affordable housing delivery initiatives, including partnerships and Council-led opportunities
  • Deliver community education and engagement activities to raise awareness and strengthen outcomes
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government, community organisations and housing providers
  • Monitor, evaluate and continuously improve policies, programs and strategic initiatives

What You’ll Bring

  • Qualifications and experience in social/public policy, urban planning, public health or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience project managing complex strategic projects
  • Strong experience in affordable housing, homelessness or related policy areas (highly desirable)
  • Deep understanding of policy and legislative environments across Local, State and Federal levels
  • Knowledge of social and commercial determinants of health and how planning levers influence community outcomes
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
  • Highly developed analytical, communication and influencing capabilities
  • Ability to deliver innovative, evidence-based solutions and high-quality written advice.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check and Eligibility to Work check.
