Salary from $89,558 on accelerated progression framework plus super, and area allowance of $20k.

Who are you?
A qualified tradesperson with a few years of experience in either mechanical or electrical fields, who is ready to take your career to the next level and train to become a -operator and maintainer of our assets. You have experience working in a large manufacturing or industrial industry and can track down faults and diagnose problems in these environments, this will come in handy working inside our hydropower stations. You keep safety front of mind and are keen to elevate your trades skills and be part of something BIG! Your skills in fault finding and diagnosis in industrial settings, along with a strong safety mindset, will make you a valuable operator.
For electrical tradespeople, preference is a Tasmanian Electrical Practitioners Licence, however interstate equivalent will be considered. Mechanical tradespeople should be able to obtain a restricted electrical licence or be part of the Electrical Safety Management Scheme. You’ll also need a current driver’s licence and solid computer skills.
About the role:
To put it simply… you will take your qualification to the next level through a Hydro Tasmania training program to operate and maintain our hydropower assets. Based on the West Coast, you’ll be working across 6 hydropower stations, one of which is approximately 150m underground. Alongside your team of pros, you’ll maintain hydropower assets that have been operating for over 100 years!
As an Operator Maintainer, you will be…
✓ Operating generating plant and equipment,
✓ Switching and reconfiguring switchyards,
✓ Managing headworks equipment and water flows,
✓ Isolating and commissioning equipment,
✓ Monitoring and reporting plant anomalies,

As an Operator Maintainer on the West Coast, you’ll work a 4-day work week from Monday to Thursday! There is option to stay local (Tullah) or use available work vehicles when travelling from further away. You will enter as a trainee operator and gain experience and competencies as you move through Hydro’s Training School, gaining remuneration increases as you hit program milestones.
On top of a competitive remuneration package, you get the best of the West Coast’s slow-paced lifestyle. The wild surrounds are filled with bushwalking tracks, and stunning fishing and boating locations (cough cough, the hydro lakes!) A gym and other amenities can be found in Tullah, and nearby schools in Rosebery and Queenstown too.
Exploring Tasmania’s wilderness is just as much a part of your day-to-day than your afterhours. One of our oldest hydropower stations, Lake Margaret, is nestled in amongst the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, and the perfect station to soak up Tasmania’s hydropower history.
