Salary range $113,448 – $131,517 plus super OT and allowances

About the role: 

To put it simply… You’ll use your mechanical engineering expertise on-site, where it matters most. As part of Hydro Tasmania’s Asset & Infrastructure (A&I) team, you'll help deliver practical engineering solutions across our hydropower network.

This site-based role gives you the opportunity to apply your skills in the field, where you’ll be part of the action, working directly with assets, contractors, and project teams to ensure high-quality outcomes.

As a Mechanical Engineer you will be… 

✓ Providing technical guidance and design support for refurbishment and maintenance programs across various sites.

✓ Travelling regularly to hydropower stations across Tasmania to support project delivery.

✓ Reviewing and contributing to engineering documentation, reports, and standards.

✓ Solving real-time technical challenges and supporting commissioning, inspection, and defect resolution.

✓ Collaborating closely with project managers, production staff, and delivery teams on-site.

Who are you? 

A motivated and passionate Mechanical Engineer, you’re eager to offer on-site expertise where your skills can directly impact performance. With professional engineering qualifications (eligible for Engineers Australia membership) and extensive experience in mechanical engineering, you bring specialised knowledge in NDT methods, FEA and CAD, welding inspection, and hydraulic systems.

Your proven background in asset management, refurbishing rotating machinery, and procurement makes you well-suited for this hands-on role. A strategic thinker with strong problem-solving abilities and a commitment to values-based decision-making, you communicate effectively with stakeholders and work well in dynamic environments. As this role requires significant time on-site, a willingness to travel regularly and a valid driver’s licence are essential.
