Salary range $135,459 – $157,027 plus super.

About the Role:

To put it simply… As the Team Lead Mechanical Engineering, you’ll be responsible for leading a team of mechanical engineers to deliver world-class engineering solutions for Hydro Tasmania’s power generation infrastructure. In this leadership role, you’ll be focused on leading small project teams, providing strategic direction for project delivery, and ensuring the successful delivery of our major works program.

As a Team Lead in the Major Works team, you will:

✓ Oversee and mentor a team of engineers, providing leadership, guidance, and fostering a culture of engagement.

✓ Coordinate and manage team resources, ensuring priorities and workloads align with project goals.

✓ Lead the execution of major refurbishment projects, providing oversight from initial planning through to final completion.

✓ Collaborate with key stakeholders, including project managers, site-based leadership teams, contractors, and other disciplines of engineering teams to ensure project success.

✓ Mentor and guide engineers, ensuring knowledge transfer and continuous professional development.

✓ Lead efforts to address skills gaps, process improvements, and project documentation challenges.

Who are you? 

As an experienced Mechanical Engineer with strong leadership skills and a passion for team development. You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and have a minimum of 7 years of experience, ideally in power generation or with large-scale rotating machinery.

You will bring specialised knowledge in NDT methods, FEA and CAD, welding inspection, and hydraulic systems, as well as have led significant projects from planning and procurement through to delivery and operation, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.

Your leadership experience will include mentoring engineers and fostering high-performance teams to drive successful project outcomes.
