About the role

As a Hydrographer, you’ll collect, analyse and maintain critical hydrometric data that supports operational decision-making, flood forecasting, regulatory compliance and asset management. Reporting to the Remote Monitoring Supervisor, you'll enjoy a balance of field-based hydrographic work with technical troubleshooting and data processing. You will be a leader in safety with an eye for detail whilst contributing to project delivery and mentoring of junior team members.


This role offers variety and autonomy across a diverse range of field and technical activities. Salary range $94,400 – $118,561 plus super

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality hydrometric data through monitoring, analysis and fault identification.

• Install, operate, test and commission remote monitoring equipment across Hydro Tasmania sites.

• Effectively manage personal workload, priorities and field commitments to deliver quality outcomes, meet deadlines and respond to changing operational needs.

• Mentor junior team members and drive continuous improvement in hydrographic standards and monitoring performance.

Skills & experience

• Diploma in Hydrography (or equivalent) and a Coxswain qualification or willingness to obtain.

• Hydrographic field experience, including installation and maintenance of monitoring equipment.

• Strong fault-finding, testing, diagnostics and technical reporting capabilities.

• Ability to mentor team members, manage workflows and contribute to asset management and reliability outcomes.

• Ability to swim and perform a range of physical tasks in changing outdoor conditions, including working in and around water environments and at times in remote areas.
