Expressions of interest are invited for current CEDoW employees to apply for the temporary acting full-time role of Acting Director - Improvement, Learning and Wellbeing commencing Monday 20 October 2025 until Friday 19 December 2025. This acting position arises due to a period of planned leave for the Deputy Executive Director in Term 4 this year.

The Improvement, Learning and Wellbeing (ILW) service area plays a critical role in leading our commitment to continuous improvement of learning and wellbeing, as expressed in the Lighting the Way strategic plan. The role leads and works closely with a team of experienced educators and system leaders, including the three Heads of Continuous Catholic School Improvement (CCSI), Head of Learning K-12 and Head of Wellbeing & Student Support, directly supporting the community of Catholic schools in Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW).  

This acting position reports to the Executive Director of Schools and necessarily requires a dynamic, values based Catholic leader with a proven track record in working to meet school/system objectives, deep expertise in strategic school improvement and the capability to make a measurable difference to overall system performance, positively impacting student outcomes in learning and wellbeing.

A critical part of this role will be to focus on ‘systemness’ through the model of connected autonomy, particularly in terms of building capacity and coherence in service delivery, based on CEDoW’s CCSI and Faith, Learning and Wellbeing Frameworks. The roleholder will also participate as a member of the CEDoW Leadership Team.  

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Applicants will need to provide evidence of: 

  • Passion and expertise for student centred, inquiry-based practices, whole-school growth and improvement and knowledge of contemporary research on K-12 learning, pedagogy and curriculum reform issues.
  • Demonstrated system leadership experience with a proven record of excellence in Catholic education or equivalent which includes a demonstrated capacity to meet the requirements of reporting and accountability with proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience in building teamwork, a highly collaborative work culture and leading a team of experienced Catholic educators and administration staff.
  • Proven capability to initiate system improvement in teaching, learning, wellbeing and student support
  • The ability to think and act strategically and systematically to develop creative and innovative solutions at a school and system level.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills in communication, negotiation, conflict resolution and presentation skills with the proven ability to liaise, collaborate and negotiate with a range of stakeholders. This includes high order empathic listening skills.
  • High order written communication skills and capacity to use multiple modes of electronic communication.
  • Post graduate qualifications in educational leadership or equivalent.
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support improvements in learning and wellbeing.
  • Proven ability to effectively resolve conflict through negotiation, including management of highly sensitive or technical issues.
