A permanent full-time position commencing 27 January 2026 until 28 January 2030. The position supports the learning and teaching of a class of students with diagnosed Autism and/or mild-moderate intellectual disability, and/or other disability, that require intensive individualised adjustments. The successful candidate will be responsible for working as part of a team to create a welcoming, safe and supportive learning environment conducive to meeting the particular learning needs of the students enrolled.

This is a permanent full-time position with Catholic Education, Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW), based at Holy Spirit College, Bellambi. The appointment to this position is anticipated to be a four-year appointment commencing 27 January 2026.  After the completion of the four-year term, a position within a systemic school will be negotiated.

ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Have qualifications to teach Religious Education or the willingness to undertake relevant study in this area, according to the CEDoW General Terms of Employment.
  • Be an active and committed Catholic or demonstrate a willingness to support the ethos of the Catholic school.
  • Have a Special/Inclusive Education qualification or a commitment to gaining qualifications in Special/Inclusive Education and/or experience teaching in a support class.
  • Demonstrate an ability to provide appropriate adjustments to meet the learning needs of students with particular diverse needs, including students with a diagnosis of Autism.
  • Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills, and an ability to work independently and as part of a team to lead, mentor, and work collaboratively with all support staff, teachers in regular classes, parents/caregivers, personnel from external agencies and the wider community.
  • Have an understanding of the role of collaborative curriculum planning process to inform patterns of study for students with autism.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Disability Standards for Education (DSE) 2005 and the processes integral to the annual Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD).
  • Have strong skills in the integration of information and communication technologies in the learning process for students with diverse learning needs.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of positive behaviour approaches and an ability to develop and maintain a positive, innovative approach to support students with challenging behaviours.
  • Be committed to ongoing personal and professional learning, formation and growth.

DESIRABLE SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Show an understanding of legislation that underpins inclusive education in Australia.
  • Show an understanding of Diverse Learning Needs Policy and Path to Life: A Framework for Pastoral Care and Wellbeing (www.dow.catholic.edu.au under policies) based on the National Safe Schools Framework.
  • An awareness of the Diocesan Lighting the Way Strategic Plan.
  • Have the capacity to lead quality teaching practice, based on the Diocesan Learning and Teaching Framework.

The following GENERAL CAPABILITIES are applicable to the role:

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organisational skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Appropriate qualifications for teaching nominated Key Learning Area (s).
  • Level B Accreditation in accordance with the To Work, Teach and Lead policy or a commitment to gain this level within the first 5 years of employment with CEDoW.
  • The applicant must be registered to teach with NESA.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CLEARANCE

This role is classified as child-related work and therefore, a Working With Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to your employment with CEDoW.
