The Executive Director of Schools invites applications from suitably experienced personnel for this temporary full time position in the Improvement, Learning and Wellbeing Team, Learning K-12 at Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong commencing Term 1 2026, until 28 January 2028. 

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Aboriginal Education Assistant is a member of the Improvement Learning and Wellbeing Team - Learning K-12. The successful applicant in this position will work predominantly with students in Year 7 to Year 12 in the Macarthur region. The applicant will be required to work closely with and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in the areas that include literacy, numeracy and cultural initiatives as well as liaise with the school, parish and local communities. This role is part of the Aboriginal Education Assistant Program which will provide support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students according to their areas of need.

ABOUT YOU 

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding and commitment to the mission and purpose of the Catholic School within the broader Catholic Church.
  • Be from an Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background
  • Have the ability to support the literacy and numeracy needs of students and/or cultural initiatives
  • Have good communication skills and be comfortable with Aboriginal community liaison
  • Be flexible in independently attending various schools and able to adapt to a variety of working conditions
  • Ability to interact positively with students
  • Technical competence in appropriate technologies
  • Demonstrate commitment to engage professionally with colleagues, parents /carers and the wider school community.

DESIRABLE SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Previous experience in similar settings
  • Certificate III in School Support or equivalent
  • Experience in educational settings such as schools and classrooms experience in supporting boys' and girls' cultural programs
  • Experience working with children in classroom and small group 
  • Willing to undertake further professional learning

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CLEARANCE

This role is classified as child related work and therefore a Working With Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to your employment with CEDoW.
