THE OPPORTUNITY
The Executive Director of Schools invites applications for the full time position of Team Leader, Clinical Practice and Student Safety which operates as part of the Improvement, Learning & Wellbeing team supporting the 38 systemic Catholic schools in the Diocese of Wollongong.
Reporting to the Head of Wellbeing and Student Support, you will play a pivotal role in leading our psychologists and child safety advisors. This is a senior appointment designed for a professional who can balance high-level clinical oversight with strategic advocacy, ensuring our schools remain safe, nurturing environments where every student can thrive.
YOUR IMPACT
As a key driver of clinical excellence and student safety, you will:
- Lead & mentor: Supervise a dedicated team of child safety advisors and psychologists, fostering a culture of pastoral care, professional growth, and trauma-informed practice.
- Clinical oversight: Establish and implement consistent ‘ways of working’ for psychometric and child safety services across the Diocese.
- Strategic response: Provide expert advice on a range of matters including complex mental health presentation, Risk of Significant Harm (RoSH) and student sexualised behaviours.
- System improvement: Collaboratively develop a Clinical Governance Framework in partnership with stakeholders.
- Advocacy: Act as a bridge between school communities and external agencies to ensure robust compliance and student safety.
- System Strategic Execution: Contributing to the execution of CEDoW’s Lighting the Way strategic plan and implementation of the Faith, Learning & Wellbeing Framework.
SELECTION CRITERIA
To be successful, you will need:
- Commitment to understand and support the Catholic Church’s Mission in Catholic Education and to represent the organisation in a professional manner in keeping with this Mission.
- Tertiary qualifications in mental health (eg: psychology, counselling, social work or similar).
- Demonstrated experience in child safety operations, mental health, and managing complex child protection cases.
- Proven expertise in the management of complex child protection matters, demonstrating high level understanding of abuse and trauma impact, child development and diverse needs.
- In-depth understanding of supporting students with complex learning, wellbeing, mental health, behavioural and safety needs. Prior experience operating within, or in partnership with, the education sector is highly regarded.
- Exceptional strategic thinking and problem solving skills, with the capacity to pre-empt barriers, pioneer solutions, gain strategic advantage and drive positive organisational change
- High standard of confidentiality, including Privacy requirements and other legislative provisions for the exchange of confidential information
- Further Requirements: A valid NSW Driver’s Licence and a current Working with Children Check (WWCC).
