THE OPPORTUNITY
The Executive Director of Schools invites applicants from suitably qualified and experienced personnel for this permanent full-time position of Security Engineer.
Reporting to the Senior Security Engineer, this position exists to ensure the operation of the Catholic Education, Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW), Catholic agencies and specific non-systemic schools security systems and are responsible for the implementation, administration, configuration, support maintenance, improvements and risk mitigation of Diocesan infrastructure and mitigation of cyber security threats
YOUR IMPACT
Your role will require you to:
- Maintain and secure all CEDoW infrastructure, including the configuration and operation of firewalls, server hardware, and cloud assets
- Monitor and investigate security alerts using SIEM, PAM, and Web Content Filtering tools to ensure all logs are parsed and threats are mitigated
- Manage endpoint security by deploying and patching software via SCCM/Intune and Jamf, ensuring endpoint protection is active on all Diocesan assets
- Oversee access control and identity management using tools like Clearpass, enforcing MFA, and creating SSO integrations via SAML or OAuth
- Execute patch management and firmware updates across all infrastructure and systemic schools to ensure swift remediation of vulnerabilities
- Perform proactive threat hunting and research current cyber attack trends to identify suspicious behavior not caught by automated systems
- Provide Level 2 infrastructure support for servers, networks, and AV platforms, managing incidents and service requests through ITSM practices
- Manage enterprise backup solutions and recovery operations to ensure data resilience and the continuity of critical school systems
- Collaborate with stakeholders and senior colleagues on high-risk configuration changes, project deployments, and alignment with business requirements
- Deliver regular reporting on security incidents, performance metrics, and innovative EdTech research to contribute to the ICLT strategic plan
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a closely related field, or equivalent experience
- Industry-wide training in any infrastructure or security related field F5, Palo Alto, Aruba-Juniper etc is desirable
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
- Knowledge of Cyber Security and common attack vectors
- Understanding of common Security Standards and Frameworks
- Demonstrated knowledge of Network Infrastructure and Access Technologies
- Knowledge of Wifi, LAN, WAN technology
- Virtual infrastructure knowledge (VMware, Nutanix, HyperV)
- Experience with SIEMS
- Ability to learn the functions of a new system quickly, efficiently and thoroughly
- Ability to work as part of a team
