About the Position

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will lead the development of scalable, high-performance data pipelines and architectures that enable data-driven decision-making across Council operations. You will also design reusable data ingestion frameworks and optimise data storage solutions to empower teams with secure, reliable, and accessible data for strategic analytics and digital transformation.

Skills and Experience

• Proven expertise in building scalable ELT pipelines and reusable data ingestion frameworks using Azure Data Services.
• Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and API integration, with hands-on experience in Lakehouse architecture and medallion design patterns.
• Demonstrated ability to design and optimise modern data architectures, including data modelling and warehousing.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automated testing to support DataOps practices.
• Sound knowledge of data governance, security protocols, and compliance with data privacy regulations.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholder

Requirements

• 5+ years’ experience in data and analytics engineering activities: design, build, maintain and optimise data warehousing solutions, modern Lakehouse and data architecture, data integration, data pipelines, data mapping, data structures, SQL queries and databases.
• Experience in implementing scalable ELT processes / workloads and modelling data for BI, Data science and Data Product consumption.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL, and/or other data querying languages.
• Proficiency in working with cloud data platforms such as Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Azure, DevOps, and Power BI.
• Experience with Git repos, CI/CD, version control, testing and automation.
• Experience with medallion architecture, data warehousing principles and big data technologies.
• Satisfactory National Police Check; and
• Other pre-employment checks may be required depending on the role requirements.
