The College Community

Having commenced in 2017 with 86 students across Kindergarten to Year 6, St Luke’s at Marsden Park is a next generation learning community within the Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD). As a ‘next generation Catholic Learning Community’ we are designing and establishing the ‘new normal’ for preschool to post school learning in an environment characterised by a flexible, stage based curriculum which nurtures and grows faith-filled, curious children to become creative contributors and innovative problem solvers for a changing world. We now enrol over 1750 students from Kindergarten to Year 12 in addition to 59 children per day in our long day centre. 

Role Overview

The Science Laboratory Assistant central responsibility is to support and assist learning priorities in the areas of Science. They are also entrusted with the upkeep of resources, maintenance of areas and cleanliness of spaces. Additionally, provide support and assistance to our teachers. More specifically you will liaise with the other Science Lab Assistant for:

  • Ordering, receiving and storing of materials and resources  to support learning.

  • Preparation of materials and resources required for general and complex laboratory experiments.

  • Preparing chemical solutions.

  • Use appropriate storage systems consistent with material safety data sheets.

  • Participate in the support and maintenance of a small number of animals on site. 

  • Supervision as per timetable of students in general areas

  • Any other duty as directed by the principal or their delegate.

Role Requirements

Employees are to support the teachings and ethos of the Catholic Church’s work in schools by demonstrating: 

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills, with the ability to translate these skills into technical concepts and written technical and support documentation.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team.

  • Skills and ability to train students and/or staff in the use of equipment and safety procedures.

  • Ability to abide by health and safety responsibilities.

  • Ability to follow direction, prioritise and meet set deadlines

  • Interpersonal skills in working with a range of personnel

  • Strong planning and organisation skills

  • Ability to maintain the quality of assigned work.

Typical Experience and Qualifications:

  • Qualifications in the relevant area of study.

  • Appropriate demonstrated experience in a school or similar setting preferable

  • Awareness of all WHS requirements

Please Note: The role is an Enterprise Agreement (EA) classified position at Classroom and Learning Support Level 4 working 8:15am - 2:45pm Monday to Friday . This role is required for school terms only.
