Role overview
This executive leader is responsible for providing independent assurance and advice to the Board and Executive on risk, control, governance, and integrity matters. This role requires a sophisticated understanding of internal audit within complex, highly regulated environments. Candidates will ideally bring deep expertise from either the financial services/insurance sector (particularly APRA-regulated environments) or NSW government (or similar), with the capacity and commitment to rapidly learn and navigate the unique context in which icare operates.
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer and the Audit Chair
Key Responsibilities
• Deep understanding of internal audit frameworks and regulatory environments applicable to complex organisations — including NSW Government TPP20-08 requirements (or equivalent) and APRA-regulated internal audit standards (or equivalent)
• Senior leadership experience managing audit teams & programs.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to influence and foster financial and system integrity.
• Demonstrated strong ethical judgment, discretion, and discernment while maintaining a growth mindset, humility, curiosity, and adaptability in all tasks.
• Commitment to public value by prioritising community needs and delivering high-quality, efficient services that foster trust and satisfaction.
Qualifications
• Tertiary qualifications in commerce, accounting, finance, business, or a related discipline are required. Professional qualifications such as CA, CPA, or CIA are highly regarded. Membership or eligibility for membership of IIA or equivalent desirable. Further qualifications such as CISA, postgraduate studies in governance or risk, or completion of the AICD Company Directors Course would be advantageous.
