About the Role

This role will be integral to how BMD does sustainability in Victoria. We are looking for a Senior Environment & Sustainability Coordinator who is passionate about the construction industry and weaving sustainability throughout everything we do.

Key Responsibilities:

The role will support the Environment & Sustainability Manager and Project Teams in the running of the BMD Constructions Environmental Systems and the site-specific environment and sustainability requirements of our Projects in delivery and support the Pre-Contracts teams in work winning.

  • Assist project team to ensure compliance with environment and sustainability aspects as per the Regulatory, Client and project specific requirements
  • Support innovation in the sustainability space, commencing at the design stage with direction from Sustainability Lead and Environment & Sustainability Manager.
  • Oversee the implementation of sustainability strategies during construction projects
  • Implementation and review of the relevant environment and sustainability plans including Environmental Management Plan (CEMP), Sustainability Management Plan (SMP), Recycled First Plan and associated Plans such as the Erosion and Sediment Control Plans (ESCPs)
  • Undertake environmental monitoring as required
  • Conduct inspections and audit of the environment and sustainability aspects and impacts of the project
  • Manage the reporting and the investigation of environmental incidents including recommendations for remedial, corrective and preventative actions and the review of these actions for effectiveness
  • Provide review and refinement of BMD systems to support sustainability data collection based on internal BMD requirements and Client requirements.
  • Internal and external reporting and monitoring of environment and sustainability performance indicators
  • Assist with training of new and current personnel in environment and sustainability management systems procedures.
  • Liaise with site/project engineers and foremen/leading hands for delivery of environmental requirements
  • Maintain ISC accreditation and opportunities for professional development
  • Provide technical support for tender and delivery phases of projects in the environment and sustainability space

The successful candidate will be a proactive self-starter with:

  • Degree or equivalent tertiary qualification in Environmental Science/ Engineering 
  • 6+ years in civil construction in environmental management
  • Prior experience on major infrastructure projects (Transport, Water, Defence) highly regarded
