About BMD

BMD is Australia’s leading integrated engineering, construction and urban development business. As the largest privately owned civil contractor in Australia, BMD is at the forefront of excellence, with a growing international footprint extending to the Philippines and the United Kingdom. Driven by a purpose of powering futures and creating enduring legacies, we deliver complex infrastructure solutions that connect and transform communities.

About the Role

Getting our people home safely to their families every day is at the heart of what we do at BMD. As our Safety Manager, you will play a pivotal role in driving health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ) excellence across our major infrastructure projects across Queensland.

We’re seeking an experienced safety professional with a strong background in the civil contracting sector, ideally with Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) or Main Roads project experience. Based in Brisbane, you’ll partner closely with project teams to influence safe behaviours, embed best-practice systems, and foster a culture where safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Confident working within large, high-performing project teams, you will be a natural relationship builder with exceptional communication skills and the ability to:

  • Lead the development of health, safety and emergency management plans in line with client and BMD requirements.
  • Engage and support project team, subcontractors and workforce to champion use of our systems, client requirements and industry best practice.
  • Lead, coach and guide the project health and safety and supervision team.
  • Plan and lead audits, frontline engagements and control verifications.
  • Facilitate risk workshops and provide input to construction method statements.
  • Lead health and safety innovations and initiatives based on data and key risks.
  • Lead incident investigations and reviews.
  • Identify and support training activities to build team capability.
  • Provide advice and guidance to team on legislative requirements.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage and influence at project management and frontline.
  • Certificate IV in OSH/WHS (Diploma desirable).
  • Demonstrable experience in the Queensland civil sector - DTMR/Transport Project experience preferred

You may also have the following additional desirable skills:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Diversity and inclusion

We recognise that we are strengthened by diversity, and we embrace differences as an equal opportunity employer providing a flexible and inclusive workplace.

So, join our team, be yourself and help us power futures and create legacies.

We’re a purpose and values-led business guided by our values of family, empowered, collaborative and driven. For further details on what makes BMD unique, head to https://www.bmdgroup.global/careers
