About the role

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Manager to lead environmental performance on a major public infrastructure project. This role will see you managing a range of complex environmental risks and compliance requirements across construction activities including dewatering, acid sulphate soils, vegetation clearing, and works within sensitive environmental areas.

You will play a critical role in protecting environmental values while enabling successful project delivery, working closely with multidisciplinary teams, regulators, and key stakeholders.

What to expect in this role:

  • Lead the development and implementation of environmental management plans and systems across the project
  • Manage environmental risks associated with dewatering, including water quality monitoring, treatment, and discharge compliance
  • Oversee identification, assessment, and management of acid sulphate soils
  • Coordinate and manage vegetation clearing activities in accordance with approvals and permit conditions
  • Ensure protection and management of sensitive environmental areas and threatened ecological communities and species
  • Lead environmental monitoring, reporting, and auditing to ensure compliance with regulatory and project requirements
  • Provide expert environmental advice to construction teams to support safe, compliant and efficient delivery of works
  • Manage environmental incidents, investigations, and corrective actions
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, clients, and key stakeholders

What we’re looking for:

  • Lead and drive environmental Key Result Areas (KRA’s) and associated Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
  • Be accountable for environmental performance, compliance, and continuous improvement across the project
  • Promote a strong environmental culture through leadership, collaboration, and education
  • Support your manager and team to operate effectively within a collaborative project environment
  • Ability to manage complex environmental and regulatory challenges in a dynamic construction environment

What You’ll Need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 5–7+ years’ experience in environmental management on large-scale civil or infrastructure projects
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, approvals, and compliance frameworks
  • Experience working in environmentally sensitive areas and with threatened ecological communities/species
  • Proven leadership and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills
