The Role

As the Regional Health & Safety Manager, you will lead the strategic direction and operational delivery of safety across a complex, multi-project infrastructure portfolio spanning Victoria and Tasmania. You will play a critical role in aligning national safety frameworks with regional execution, driving consistent standards, strengthening leadership capability and ensuring disciplined, risk-based performance across all projects.

Operating as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, you will provide clear visibility of critical risks, influence decision-making at a regional level and embed a high-performance safety culture that delivers measurable and sustainable outcomes across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and support regional safety teams to drive consistency and performance
  • Partner with General Managers and project leaders to embed safety into planning and delivery
  • Maintain oversight of critical risks, high-risk projects and emerging safety issues
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, contractual and BMD safety requirements
  • Drive safety systems, reporting, and assurance activities across the region
  • Lead incident response, investigations and implementation of learnings
  • Analyse data and performance trends to inform decision-making and priorities
  • Deliver continuous improvement initiatives and build regional safety capability

About You

  • You are an experienced safety leader with a strong track record operating within Tier 1 or large-scale civil construction environments, bringing both strategic capability and practical, field-based influence.
  • Extensive experience (typically 8–12+ years) leading health and safety across complex, multi-project infrastructure portfolios
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders, project directors and operational teams, driving accountability and measurable safety outcomes
  • Deep expertise in critical risk management, assurance frameworks and regulatory compliance within major project environments
  • Demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing safety teams across geographically dispersed projects
  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness, with the ability to align safety outcomes to client expectations and project delivery objectives
  • Highly developed capability in incident management, investigation and embedding learnings at scale
  • Tertiary qualification in WHS, safety or related discipline (or equivalent experience), with lead auditor and advanced investigation training highly regarded
  • A visible and credible leader who builds trust in the field, communicates clearly and aligns with BMD’s values of Family, Driven, Empowered and Collaborative
