Where does the role fit into Pobl?
This position is part of Pobl’s Floating Support Service, which provides tenancy-related support in the Blaenau Gwent area to vulnerable individuals who’s lead need is Learning difficulties. The primary goal of the service is to help individuals manage their tenancies and reduce the risk of homelessness.
What is great about the role?
As a Floating Support Worker you will assist individuals in maintaining their tenancies, modifying negative behaviours, ensuring health and wellbeing, progressing towards independent living, and making informed decisions.
The individuals supported may have varying needs, including challenging behaviour, mental health issues, learning difficulties, or substance misuse. The role involves inspiring, challenging, and enabling people to lead successful and independent lives through guidance and support.
Day to Day Duties:
As a Floating support worker you will:
- Carry a caseload of clients within the community. With a variety of differing needs and levels of need, depending on their situation.
- Be responsible for drawing up the Support Plans for the clients, and have overall responsibility for maintaining and updating these, on an ongoing basis.
- Encourage clients to fully participate in their community and to engage with the services available to them.
- Regularly visit clients and provide support, information, advice and other help to enable clients in the pre- and post- tenancy stages of their resettlement.
- Support clients to deal with issues that may threaten their tenancy or housing status, especially with matters regarding benefits and household management, health and wellbeing, budgeting skills, anti-social behaviour.
- Offer appropriate levels of support in a sensitive manner, taking into account the emotional and intellectual needs of the client, respecting their choice and privacy.
- Visit local community hubs to offer drop in sessions to individuals who require support and guidance.
What skills and experience do you need?
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of housing-related support and welfare benefits. Additionally, awareness of issues faced by individuals at risk of homelessness will be highly beneficial.
Reliability is essential, as the role involves supporting people who depend on you. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary, along with basic IT and numerical abilities. Effective organisational skills are also crucial for managing your own caseload efficiently.
What are the pay and benefits?
- Full-time (37hrs), fixed term (1st October – 31st December)
- Competitive salary of £24,531.00
- Base: Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent, NP22 3NG
- Work Pattern: Predominantly Mon-Fri office hours although flexibility is required depending on the needs of the service users.
