What is great about the role?
-
Technical with a Personal Touch: Carry out home visits, conduct basic property inspections, and offer advice on adaptations, repairs, and home improvements.
-
Hands-On Support: Work directly with clients, providing clear, practical guidance and helping them access grants, benefits, and services to fund essential work.

Hosted by Pobl: Care & Repair Newport is a small, independent agency hosted by Pobl Group. They help older people living in Newport to repair, maintain and adapt their homes. You’ll have the best of both worlds: autonomy to make a difference locally, with the backing of a wider organisation.
Where does this role fit in?
You’ll visit clients in their homes to understand their needs and assess properties for basic issues and required adaptations. You’ll provide clear, practical advice on minor adaptations (such as handrails or ramps), essential repairs, and general home safety improvements. Supporting clients to access funding- whether through grants, charitable help, or welfare support—will be a key part of the role. You’ll also prepare schedules of work, drawings, and simple specifications to help deliver small to medium works. Liaising with contractors, ensuring work meets expected standards, and keeping clients informed and reassured throughout the process are all important responsibilities. Where appropriate, you’ll also signpost clients to wider services, including housing, care, or health support.
What skills and experience do you need?
-
Trusted Communicator: Confident in speaking with older and vulnerable clients, explaining technical issues in plain, supportive language, and helping them feel reassured and involved throughout the process.
-
Problem-Solving Attitude: Practical, hands-on, and solutions-focused, with the ability to make appropriate recommendations.
