Who are Pobl Group?

Pobl Group are a proud employer of over 2,300 colleagues providing diverse services and making a difference in communities throughout Wales. Pobl is more than just a Housing Association, it’s a multi-faceted business whose range of provision varies from care and support to individuals, through to commercial development activities. We are the largest support provider in Wales and our awesome teams share a passion for becoming the very best at what they do, and love their jobs.

What is great about the role?

Become a Difference Maker with Pobl and provide support that enables people to live autonomously, help improve their financial capability and retain independence, dignity, respect and inclusion in the community. We use a systems thinking approach to provide demand led support around what matters the most to our service users.

The role will be varied and involve working with vulnerable people in their homes or in the community to prevent homelessness and develop skills needed to maintain their tenancies, change negative behaviour, maintain their health and wellbeing, progress to independent living and make appropriate decisions. The people we support may have varying needs such as offending behaviour, mental health issues, learning difficulties or substance misuse.

As a Floating Support Worker, you will inspire, challenge, and enable people to lead successful and independent lives. You will work flexibly as part of a team to develop, implement and review support plans based on individual needs, preferences and aspirations. Your place of work will centre around the needs of the people we support.

Your Day will consist of:

  • Managing your own caseload
  • Traveling to the people we support’s homes
  • Engaging and interacting with the people we support to establish goals to work towards, write up support plans and risk assessments
  • Providing advice on finances, health, welfare benefits, housing options and tenancy management skills
  • Supporting with housing issues such as rent arrears and applying for grants for white goods
  • Working with external agencies, especially Housing Options in Powys and signposting the people we support to the appropriate services suited to their needs
  • Helping with the running of group activities, such as cooking on a budget
  • Supporting clients to make and accompanying them to appointments such as GP appointments

Our aim is to ensure we equip these individuals with the confidence, knowledge, and tools they need to manage their home independently, so it is essential that we teach them how and not do it for them. This is a challenging role and you will be faced with varying needs which can lead to frustrations when there is a lack of understanding of the housing issues, the people we support, face. You will work with a range of different personalities and behaviours so you will need to be able to adapt your approach to engage with a diverse cliental as well as have an awareness of the issues faced by people at risk of homelessness.

Who we are looking for:

Please demonstrate in your application form how you:

  • Have knowledge of housing related support and benefit systems
  • Have good organisation, IT and record keeping skills
  • Can work part of a team and on an individual basis
  • Deal with difficult situations
  • Have good listening skills

To be a great Support Worker, you don’t always need previous experience or qualifications. A good understanding of housing related support and welfare benefits or awareness of issues faced by people at risk of homelessness would be extremely useful in the role.

It is essential for the successful candidate to have a full drivers licence and access to a vehicle.
