What is the role?  

Ty Gwynfa consists of 6 individual flats and some communal areas where we offer daytime support. Our support workers work hours from 10am to 8pm. 

The people that we support have varying levels of independence.  We aim to offer support to build and maintain skills to develop their current levels of independence. We educate and support individuals to manage their own tenancy and assist with claiming benefits and budgeting their finances.

An interesting and valuable part of the role is to source activities and encourage individuals to use the community services available locally and to explore employment opportunities at the right time.  A knowledge or background of vulnerable people with mental health issues would be desirable but not essential.

You will feel the reward of building lasting and trusting relationships with those you support, working alongside them to maintain their independence.

You will be required to support with daily aspects of living, including:

  • Cooking skills and other household skills
  • Accessing the community and supporting the individuals to attend local groups
  • Supporting with individuals’ hobbies and activities
  • Being a team player and having good communication skills
  • Completing relevant paperwork to a high standard
  • Supporting individuals to budget finances
  • Providing companionship to the people we support through talking about their interests and wellbeing
  • Having fun by encouraging the supported individuals to take part in activities that enhance their life skills and promote independence
  • Being able to bring fresh ideas to the team and implement different ways of working
  • Medication administration

What skills and experience do you need? 

A background of working with people within this sector is desired, but not essential as full training and support will be provided.  

More importantly;

  • A genuine desire to help people and make a difference
  • An understanding of the challenges that many of our service users face
  • Keen listening and communication skills
  • Empathy, compassion and a caring nature
  • Flexibility including working evenings/ bank holidays and weekends
  • Respect, integrity and dignity for our client groups
  • A non-judgemental approach to providing care and support.

  • An hourly rate of £12.15 making the annual salary £23,376  (FTE)
