What is the role?  

At our residential care home in Aberavon, we pride ourselves on delivering tailored care that respects the individuality of each resident. Our compassionate and highly trained staff work closely with residents to ensure their personal needs, preferences, and wishes are at the heart of everything we do.

Our home is a warm and vibrant community of 60 residents, each with their own personality and support needs, including individuals living with dementia.

The Kitchen Assistant will be part of the catering team ensuring the highest standards are achieved to meet the needs to the residents. You’ll prepare, cook and serve meals (including portion control and provision of special dietary meals where necessary). You’ll also implement health and safety in the kitchen, including food hygiene, Infection control and COSHH.

This role will mean that you will manage the full meal-time process from ordering and receipting food for the kitchen, to storage, food preparation, cooking and clean-up.

A great part of this job is actively engaging residents in conversation and having meaningful interactions with them about their lives and experiences.

You will also provide assistance to people who we support at mealtimes if they require it.

What skills and experience do you need?

To be successful you’ll have experience of working in food preparation in a professional kitchen environment.
