Job Description: Pobl Group Board

At Pobl Group, we are guided in everything we do by our FREDIE principles: Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement. We believe that diverse perspectives fuel innovation and drive positive change.

We are seeking to engage a new Non-Executive Director to join our board and help us deliver on our mission. If you have senior-level treasury, financial governance, or accountancy expertise—and a passion for making a difference—then we’d love to hear from you. We have two NED roles available: one requiring a finance/accountancy background and the other suited for someone experienced in large-scale organisations with a broad customer base - please find the alternate role on our website.

Where does this role fit in?

Pobl Group is a proud employer of over 2,700 colleagues. We provide social housing, care and support services, and we develop new homes in communities throughout Wales.

We operate in a “Large & Local” way—combining the scale of a major organisation with the care, consideration, and in-person service of local delivery in over 150 communities. Following our recent merger with Linc Cymru, we are now the largest organisation of our kind in Wales, with bold ambitions for the future.

What’s great about the role?

As a Non-Executive Director, you’ll play a vital role in steering the strategic direction of the Group. You’ll work closely with fellow Board members, our Group Executive Team, and Senior Leaders to ensure we continue to grow sustainably, deliver on our purpose, and stay true to our values.

We’re particularly seeking someone with financial oversight skills, ideally developed in treasury management, accountancy, or strategic risk and governance roles. This may include experience in areas like:

  • Corporate treasury or liquidity management
  • Financial risk and controls
  • Investment oversight or capital strategy
  • Audit and assurance
  • Governance of complex financial or regulated environments

This expertise will add real value to our Audit & Risk and Treasury Committees, and will help ensure the board remains effective in a time of growth and change.

What Skills and Experience do you need?

We’re committed to having a board that reflects the communities we serve. So, as always, we welcome and encourage applicants from all backgrounds and life experiences.

That said, we’re especially interested in people with:

  • A qualification and background in accountancy (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA etc.)
  • An understanding of how organisations manage financial risk and capital responsibly
  • Experience serving on boards or working with senior stakeholders in large or complex organisations
  • A strong sense of purpose and community impact
  • The ability to constructively challenge, bring fresh ideas, and ask the right questions

You don’t need to have NED experience to apply—but you do need to care about making a difference and using your expertise to do good.

What you’ll do

  • Provide financial insight: Help the board make sound decisions about financial strategy, risk, and sustainability
  • Drive performance: Use your expertise to support and challenge our teams constructively
  • Champion integrity: Embody Pobl’s values and high standards of governance
  • Bring an external perspective: Engage with our teams, customers, and stakeholders
  • Support committees: Serve on at least one of our Committees (likely Audit & Risk or Treasury)
  • Commit to learning: Take part in board development and keep informed of sector challenges

What’s the commitment?

You’ll need to commit around 12–15 days per year, including Board meetings, committee duties, strategy sessions, and stakeholder events. Meetings are mainly in person, some virtual, and all during business hours.

We offer an annual remuneration of £7,815. Terms of office are typically three years with up to two, three year extensions, subject to periodic review.

What’s FREDIE?

It’s our commitment to Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement. We apply these principles to everything we do—including how we recruit.

We’ve built Positive Action into this recruitment. That means applicants from underrepresented backgrounds can opt in to be guaranteed an interview if they meet the essential criteria.

What’s next?

To apply, follow the link and submit a CV, answer two questions about your interest in joining the board, and complete a short application form.

If you have questions about the role, get in touch with Richard Barnes – Head of Talent Attraction: richard.barnes@poblgroup.co.uk

Our Assessment Approach

We want to get to know you—your thinking, your values, and how you might contribute around the board table. If shortlisted, as part of the process, we’ll ask you to take part in a mini board session to explore how you interpret data, interact with other board members and how you’d approach a strategic or financial challenge relevant to our work.

You’ll also take part in a structured interview with a panel, and we may invite you to complete a brief psychometric profile to support our understanding of your strengths and decision-making style. The aim is to create a balanced, inclusive process that values both your experience and your potential.

Shortlisting will be held week commencing 30th June. Interviews will be held on the 16th and 17th July.
