Work type: Full time
Salary: 41,949
Location: Swansea, Torfaen

Job Description: Customer & Community

About the role

This role is all about bringing empty homes back to life.

As a Building Surveyor, you’ll play a key part in getting our empty homes (voids) ready for new customers to move into. Your work will help turn properties around quickly, safely and to a high standard-  making a real difference to people and communities across Wales.

You’ll carry out pre‑ and post inspections of empty properties, clearly identifying and specifying the work needed to meet our quality standards. Working closely with our in house Trades teams and trusted contractors, you’ll help ensure work is planned well, delivered safely, and completed on time.

This is a hands on, varied role where no two days are the same. You’ll work alongside colleagues across Trades, Assets and Contract Management, helping to shape programmes of work and supporting the smooth delivery of repairs and void projects.

If you enjoy solving problems, working with people on site, and seeing the direct impact of your work, this role offers real purpose and satisfaction.

Skills and experience needed

We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with properties and people, and who cares about quality and detail.

You’ll have experience working in social housing or a similar environment, with a strong understanding of building maintenance and repairs. You’ll be confident carrying out inspections in properties and producing clear, practical specifications of work.

You’ll also be comfortable working with trade teams and contractors, providing clarity on what’s needed day to day and offering guidance where standards need to be improved. Clear communication matters in this role, whether that’s on site, in writing, or when feeding back issues and risks.

You don’t need to know everything on day one, but you’ll need to be organised, adaptable and able to deal with both routine work and unexpected issues when they arise. Being comfortable with IT systems and paying close attention to detail, especially when recording information for others is essential.

You’ll also need:

  • A minimum of NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in a construction‑related subject
  • A full UK driving licence with business insurance and access to a vehicle
