SVO Road Test Rework Technician

Department Overview: 

SVO are responsible for all special vehicle programmes. They are accountable for the delivery of vehicles as per the volume build plan while managing safety, quality and process to the highest standards.

Job Purpose: 

SVO team member is required to support daily Off-tracks operations across stations responsible to the Group Leader. This role involves vehicle assembly of prototype build & fitting of components in various stages of assembly on the SVO line, and liaison with build support staff including engineers at all levels, including reworking of vehicles

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Perform road testing of vehicles in line with established processes and standards, ensuring full compliance with the EASE system at all relevant stages.
  • Identify, escalate, and resolve any issues encountered during road tests, ensuring correct application of the EASE system and reporting missing processes or details.
  • Ensure all road test activities meet the required quality standards, adhering to VIS (Vehicle Inspection Standards).
  • Immediately report any issues or discrepancies identified during testing to the Product Coach, Launch Leader & Lead Technician for further action.
  • Actively participate in troubleshooting and problem-solving during the containment of road test issues, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Collaborate with Engineers to raise and resolve issues impacting road test performance, offering solutions and implementing fixes as needed.
  • Support trial fitment activities, ensuring that vehicles are roadworthy and ready for testing.
  • Proactively escalate any parts shortages or delays that could affect road test schedules.
  • Conduct rework or rectification tasks on vehicles as required to resolve road test issues.
  • Assist with the validation and testing of new equipment and tooling used in road test processes.
  • Support in the recovery of parts or missed processes that affect vehicle testing and performance.
  • Handle specific tasks involving carbon fibre components during road tests where required.
  • Execute RIS (Rectification Instruction Sheet) work on vehicles that are pending PTS (Pre-Delivery Testing) after road testing.
  • Follow all relevant risk assessments and health & safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment during road testing.
  • Ensure that all road test work is completed within the required cycle time and adheres to operational schedules.
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement, productivity, and process efficiency initiatives during road tests.
  • Ensure that controlled substances/components are stored in the correct trackside locations.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent manual dexterity, particularly in a vehicle testing or diagnostic environment.
  • Previous experience or working knowledge of vehicle assembly processes, with a focus on final inspection and road test readiness.
  • Proven experience in vehicle rework and rectification, ideally within a road test or quality control setting.
  • Familiarity with the EASE system and its application in road test and inspection processes is highly desirable.
  • Confident in training and supporting other team members on road test procedures, standards, and process requirements.
  • NVQ in automotive production, repair or maintenance preferred 
  • Computer literate advantageous

This is a role that is track tied and requires the incumbent to be on their feet for the entirety of the shift.
