Job Purpose:
This position is responsible for managing a Manufacturing team, creating an environment of genuine employee empowerment in order to achieve ‘World Class’ standards. The incumbent will be responsible for achieving safety, volume, quality and cost targets and the meeting of customer expectations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Be an advocate for delivering exceptional vehicle manufacturing processes within a busy production environment.
- Health & Safety activity, including COSHH, risk assessment, near miss reporting and communication/training of staff.
- Quality – Continuous improvement philosophy and utilisation of problem-solving techniques. Emphasis on no faults forwards and DPV reduction, AMCPA targets & customer satisfaction.
- Delivery - Volume achievement, build to sequence, zero misfits, effective planning to maintain throughput and improve OPR.
- Cost – Achieve or beat budget including headcount, scrap, consumables and other cost areas
- Responsible for year-on-year productivity improvement and cost per car reduction.
- People (morale) – Lead training, development and employee communication activity. Ensure adherence to relevant company policies.
- Environment – Maintain ISO 14001 compliance, drive environmental improvement including waste reduction and employee training.
- Achieve Scorecard targets for SQDCME and lead adhoc projects with a team of Technicians, Lead Technicians and Group Leaders.
- Ability to work collaboratively cross-functionally.
- Any other managerial and production-based responsibilities as required.
Experience and Qualifications
- Proven experience in operations management with knowledge of vehicle manufacturing is essential.
- Good interpersonal skills – ability to manage, motivate and coach teams to achieve objectives.
- Leadership ability – previous experience within demanding environment.
- Knowledge/experience of modern automotive manufacturing.
- Flexibility to operate within ‘Working time flexibility’ requirements and/or shift working.
- HND/Degree in Manufacturing/Manufacturing Engineering/Mechanical Engineering inc. Business Management would be desirable.
