Department Overview: 

The HR Operations team provides administrative, systems and reporting services to the HR team and all Aston Martin employees. 

 

Job Purpose: 

Reporting into the HR Operations & Payroll Manager, this role will take the lead on the full spectrum of day-to-day payroll activities for both our international and UK payrolls, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and operational excellence. This will include end-to-end processing of multiple small international payrolls. This is a hands-on role and so will also need to actively participate in the input and processing of all payroll items, as well as handling more complex problem solving and projects. The role will work closely with the HR Operations Team (and the wider HR Team) to provide an efficient and effective payroll service for all our employees (regardless of where they are based in the world).

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Payroll Operations

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of the day-to-day operation of the international payrolls, ensuring timely and accurate delivery
  • Alongside the UK Payroll Consultant, support the delivery of the monthly UK payroll (this will include data input and processing)
  • Work closely with the HR Operations Team Leader and the HR Admin team to ensure a seamless service for our employees
  • Act as a point of escalation and lead the resolution of more complex payroll queries, troubleshooting and resolving issues effectively
  • Ensure payroll compliance with relevant local legislation, tax requirements, statutory reporting and company policies.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, build and maintain relationships with external payroll providers (and tax advisors as appropriate) to deliver a seamless service
  • Execute payroll input and approvals, ensuring that data integrity is maintained throughout the payroll cycle
  • With the Payroll Manager, take a lead role in completing internal and external audits, ensuring documentation and processes are audit-ready
  • Maintain up-to-date payroll process documentation and contribute to process improvements

 

Deputy Responsibilities

  • Provide full coverage for the HR Operations & Payroll Manager for all payroll-related activities during periods of absence (e.g., leave, business travel)
  • Take ownership of key payroll deliverables, be involved with key relationships with external payroll providers, and continuously drive improvements
  • Build a strong working knowledge of the broader payroll compliance framework, reporting requirements, and vendor management activities

 

Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Maintain and develop existing payroll processes and practices to deliver a compliant, seamless, customer-focused payroll service as part of the wider people team to meet the business' needs.
  • Working with the HR Operations Team Leader, ensure processes are in place for the smooth and accurate flow of information between payroll and HR Administration, avoiding duplication
  • Identify areas for improvement, and proactively recommend and implement enhancements to drive efficiency and effectiveness
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and adoption of best practices within the payroll function 

 

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Hands-on experience running end-to-end payroll processes, including excellent knowledge of UK payroll and tax legislation. Experience with international payrolls (and payroll tax compliance) desirable
  • Able to effectively multitask and manage multiple payrolls with competing deadlines
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax-reporting and compliance requirements
  • Experience with end-of-year procedures and employee benefits administration
  • Knowledge of HR/Payroll Systems/ software and employee administration (HRIS platforms)
  • Sound IT literacy in MS Office Tools
  • Organised, detail-oriented, with the agility to work in a fast-paced environment
  • GCSEs or equivalent (including English and Maths) 

Preferred: 

  • Experience working with external payroll vendors
  • Exposure to payroll audits and process improvement initiatives
  • Knowledge of ERP systems
  • Supporting HR projects
  • CIPP or equivalent (Level3)

Additional Requirements: 

The post-holder may be required to travel to other sites to support HR & payroll activities. A valid, current driving licence is therefore desirable
