For over 110 years Aston Martin has made the most exquisitely addictive performance sports cars.
But no one builds an Aston Martin on their own. Behind these legends and landmarks are hundreds of dreamers, darers and doers who make extraordinary happen, every single day. That’s why the name of everyone who has ever worn our famous wings is inscribed on the wall of our factory.
As we embark on an exciting new era for the business, we need the very best people to write their own chapter on our journey to become the world’s most desirable ultra-luxury British performance brand.

Job Purpose:
As the Head-Up Display (HUD) Engineer, you will serve as the technical authority and component owner for HUD systems across vehicle programmes. You will be responsible for end-to-end delivery of HUD technology—from supplier engagement through to launch and lifecycle management. The role requires both strategic foresight and hands-on execution, ensuring the HUD system is developed and delivered in line with customer expectations, platform constraints, and emerging sector trends.
A strong emphasis is placed on spatial integration and system packaging to safeguard HUD performance and visibility within complex vehicle architectures.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Commodity Ownership
- Own the HUD commodity strategy over a 5-year lifecycle, delivering technical roadmaps that balance innovation, cost, and feasibility.
- Lead technology scouting and concept development through to implementation readiness, in line with agreed functional budgets and resources.
- Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all HUD componentry and interfacing systems, including lenses, combiner technologies, mirrors, displays, and projection units.
- Maintain and evolve engineering guideline documents and hardware archetypes for HUDs.
- Manage the full component lifecycle, driving cost and weight optimisation from concept through to post-SOP.
Engineering & Technical Delivery
- Define and maintain detailed component and interface specifications for HUD hardware and associated systems.
- Ensure robust engineering of HUD components using standard tools (e.g. DFMEA, DVP, CAD/CAE).
- Drive packaging studies and vehicle integration activities to safeguard visibility zones, driver ergonomics, and module accessibility.
- Own and resolve technical issues arising during development, validation, and post-launch.
- Support cross-domain technical alignment (e.g. with Instrument Clusters, Infotainment, Trim, and Glazing teams) to ensure system-level compatibility.
Programme Delivery
- Lead a cross-functional delivery team to meet all programme milestones for the HUD system, across quality, cost, weight, function, and timing.
- Own BoM releases, supplier interface, tooling launches, and delivery tracking for the HUD system.
- Monitor supplier and internal resource allocation, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and delivery robustness.
Validation & Launch
- Define and manage the HUD system validation plan (virtual and physical), ensuring compliance with functional, optical, EMC, and safety targets.
- Collaborate with test and validation teams to execute plan and close out any deviations.
- Ensure timely completion of Final Engineering Sign-Off (FESO) and other programme gateway deliverables.
- Support vehicle build phases (pre-prod through to SOP), ensuring any concerns are rapidly contained and resolved.
Qualification & Experience:
- Proven record of delivering complex Head-Up Display (HUD) or advanced visual display systems, meeting targets for quality, cost, weight, function, and timing.
- Demonstrated experience in the development and integration of HUDs or closely related commodities such as projection optics, lens systems, or embedded display technologies.
- Strong understanding of automotive development systems — including component specification, releasing, issue management (concerns & containments), gateway processes, and sign-off documentation.
- Hands-on experience leading cross-functional teams to resolve complex integration issues, including optical alignment, packaging constraints, and software interfacing.
- Supplier management experience — particularly with Tier 1 optical or display system suppliers — including RFQ, DFM reviews, validation alignment, and launch readiness.
- Full lifecycle delivery experience across the automotive product development process, from concept feasibility through to mass production launch and post-SOP support.
- Strong technical engineering background with evidence of using first-principle calculation or simulation to support packaging, thermal, optical, or mechanical performance.
- Working knowledge of automotive quality tools including DFMEA, DVP, 8D, and robust root cause analysis methods.
- Understanding of electronic module manufacturing processes, including optics assembly, bonding techniques, and environmental sealing considerations.
- Prior experience authoring and managing requirements documentation for HUD or infotainment systems using tools such as Polarion, DOORS, or Jama.
- Proficiency with vehicle diagnostics tools, particularly CAN/FlexRay sniffing and message interpretation for system debug and validation.
- Familiarity with optical simulation or HUD-specific CAE tools (e.g. optical ray tracing, field of view modelling, or ISO compliance validation).
- Experience collaborating with interior trim, glazing, and driver ergonomics teams to safeguard HUD system visibility and driver interaction.
- Knowledge of EMC compliance and thermal management strategies relevant to in-cabin optical systems.
- Engineering degree or proven equivalent experience.
Behaviours:
- Collaboration – Collaborates with own team as well as cross-functional teams to achieve their purpose. Passionate about team effectiveness and its delivery which is reflected in results.
- Customer focus – always focuses on high attention to detail & demonstrates accuracy in their work. Continually strives for excellence by critiquing own work and seeking constructive feedback from others to improve.
- Communication – ensures communication has a clear purpose, is factual, accurate & provided at the right time. Proactively shares information with colleagues & stakeholders. Excellent written communication skills for requirements writing & concerns management. Able to verbally communicate at all levels.
- Commitment – takes ownership of objectives, work activities & behavior, & makes informed decisions backed by data. Monitors own projects and work activities against deadlines, holding themselves accountable
