Job Purpose:

This role leads the certification of AML powertrains in the North American markets, ensuring and demonstrating compliance with regulatory requirements for current and future model years.
The role serves as AML’s subject matter expert for tailpipe and evaporative emissions, fuel economy, and powertrain-related certification in the United States, Canada, and associated territories.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver powertrain testing and certification activities including:
    • Dynamometer-based emissions and EV range testing
    • Evaporative emissions
    • Self-certification testing
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders including product development, calibration, software, road load verification, certification authorities, test facilities, and suppliers
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on North American powertrain certification requirements and best practices
  • Monitor and report on the performance, progress, and risks of certification projects
  • Support the development and implementation of certification strategies and processes
  • Ensure certification activities align with product development timing and AML quality standards

Qualification & Experience:

  • Proven experience in powertrain certification, testing, and engineering, with a focus on regulatory compliance
  • In-depth knowledge of powertrain systems and technologies, including internal combustion, hybrid, and electric propulsion systems
  • Strong understanding of North American emissions regulations, including EPA, CARB, NHTSA, and Environment Canada requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex certification projects across multiple stakeholders and disciplines
  • Experience interpreting and applying regulatory changes to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Extensive experience within the automotive industry, ideally in a regulatory or certification-focused role
  • Proven success within an integrated OEM environment, contributing to cross-functional programme delivery
  • Hands-on involvement with Technical Services or regulatory consultancies, including direct engagement with certification authorities
  • Experience influencing regulatory strategy and contributing to industry working groups or policy discussions
  • Advanced knowledge of certification pathways for emerging technologies, including electrified powertrains
  • Strong financial and operational acumen, with a track record of managing and optimising certification budgets
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or related field (or equivalent)

  • Highly proficient in technical documentation and regulatory submissions, with meticulous attention to detail
  • Advanced user of MS Office and certification-related systems, with the ability to adapt quickly to AML-specific platforms
  • Commercially aware, with a clear understanding of the financial and timing implications of certification decisions
  • Customer-focused mindset, using data and feedback to inform decisions and improve compliance processes
  • Resilient and results-driven, demonstrating tenacity, integrity, and the ability to deliver under pressure in a dynamic environment
  • Proactive and collaborative, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team
