About the Portfolio 

Our cluster of Academic Units in Sciences and Engineering provide world-class research and teaching, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs, with presence across three regions in Lutruwita, Tasmania; South (Hobart), Northern (Launceston), and Cradle Coast (Burnie). Our Sciences and Engineering course offerings, research contributions, and graduates work with and in our communities making a significant impact locally, nationally, and internationally.  

The Opportunity 

This role supports our diverse range of academic units in Sciences and Engineering to be successful by providing the strategic leadership and good governance to ensure they perform well individually and collectively in combination with other parts of university, community, industry and governance to pursue vital discovery research and contribute to the critical local and global transitions we need to make by 2050. The role is an opportunity to work collaboratively and purposefully, facilitate connection across academic units and contribute to whole of University strategic and executive decision making.     

What’s Required  

  • Demonstrated executive leadership within the Sciences and Engineering domain, with similar scope of responsibility to this position. 
  • Demonstrated extensive leadership and coaching experience at a senior level, with a proven ability to inspire, mentor, and guide diverse teams towards achieving strategic goals, in an academic setting. 
  • Demonstrated high level organisational, leadership and managerial skills and a record of success in developing and implementing strategic and operational plans, setting budgets and managing finances, and managing, developing and workforce planning staff in an academic environment. 
  • A strong and sophisticated understanding of the strategic direction and unique challenges of and opportunities for the University of Tasmania, and the alignment for success across the full spectrum of STEM disciplines.
