About the Portfolio

The Academic Division has a critical role in enabling and supporting learning and teaching success. The purpose of the Academic System will be to achieve transformative educational outcomes for students and communities​, ensure that all courses are mission-aligned, design and performance optimized.

Seven critical elements will serve specific purposes in the System and include Courses, Capacity, Capability, Time, Governance, Management, and Technology and processes. The system will deliver mission aligned educational content, allowing us to accelerate the transition we need to make in Tasmania.

About the Opportunity

Leading the strategic transformation of academic workforce capability development, this role will ensure that academic staff are supported to thrive in an evolving sector by fostering a culture of continuous growth, development, and innovation. You will oversee a holistic system of professional development that brings capability and culture to life at every stage of the employee lifecycle, aligning with the journey from student to professor and beyond. Driving intergenerational change in academic workforce capability, you will support staff to have the skills, confidence, and leadership capability to push the frontiers of learning and teaching in a rapidly evolving education landscape. 

Developing structured career and learning pathways for academic staff that prioritise leadership, mentorship and the mastery of emerging academic capabilities needed in a changing sector will ensure the University anticipates future capability needs.  Identifying opportunities for systemic uplift and proactively designing interventions that attract exceptional staff to the University will build our collective capacity to make a difference to Tasmania. 

What’s Required

We are seeking a driven system thinker, who has demonstrated experience in translating strategy into action.  Bringing demonstrated expertise in higher education capability development and academic career progression, you will have a proven track record in leading strategic workforce initiatives that build collective capacity and enhance institutional impact. They should possess the ability to identify emerging trends and translate them into strategic workforce planning and capability uplift. Additionally, the candidate must have a strong background in designing and delivering transformative professional development programs at scale. Exceptional leadership skills are essential, particularly in fostering an academic culture that values learning, innovation, and impact. The ability to build relationships, influence senior leaders, and integrate capability development into broader institutional strategy is also crucial.
