About the opportunity

We are seeking to appoint a Data Linkage Analyst, Tasmanian Data Linkage Unit (TDLU) at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research (Menzies), part of UTAS Health.

Menzies is one of Australia’s leading health and medical research institutes. Menzies exists to improve human health and wellbeing by performing excellent basic, clinical and population health research that focuses on the major diseases affecting the Tasmanian community. Taking a disease prevention approach, our research is aimed at improving patient care and clinical outcomes for the community by translating knowledge and clinical actions. 

What you’ll do:

  • Undertake operational and project linkages to a high standard.
  • Develop and maintain databases to facilitate linkage of confidential data.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation including systems and database design, test plans and training manuals.
  • Provide database support to other staff in data extraction and processing.
  • Provide advice on study design, data linkage and geocoding of data to client services staff and researchers.­

What we’re looking for:

  • A degree level qualification in a relevant area (e.g. IT, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Statistics) with subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Well-developed skills in database design and modelling, SQL query-writing and database administration/management (preferably SQL Server and Microsoft Access).
  • Demonstrated experience in application development (preferably in Visual Basic but not essential).
  • Understanding of data linkage processes and techniques and an ability to fully grasp TDLU’s complex Data Processing System and associated software.
  • Demonstrated experience in the coordination or management of complex, data-based projects including data security and management, quality assurance and data confidentiality. 

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 6 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $116,872 comprising base salary within the range of $92,120 to $99,891 plus 17% superannuation.
