  • Full time, ongoing role based in Hobart

About the opportunity

The Manager, Student Sport and Partnerships will lead the delivery of student sport programs and partnerships within the University’s Campus Life portfolio, supporting the implementation of the new University Sport Strategy (2026–2030). This role is central to creating inclusive, place-based sport opportunities that foster student success and community connection. Reporting to the Head of Sport, the Manager will oversee initiatives such as the Elite Athletes Program, UniSport Australia competitions, and governance for University-affiliated sport clubs, ensuring they grow participation, improve performance, and strengthen ties with alumni and the broader community.

Collaboration and relationship-building are key aspects of the position, requiring engagement with internal stakeholders like TUSA and Campus Accommodation, as well as external partners including sporting bodies and institutes at state and national levels. The Manager will also assist developing sustainable support models for athletes and clubs through marketing, sponsorship, and alumni engagement. Strong communication, budget management, and compliance skills are essential, along with flexibility to work outside standard hours and assist with administrative tasks to ensure smooth sport operations.

What you’ll do:

  • Contribute to a positive work environment for the Sport team through an innovative approach to managing the Student sport performance and partnership activities.
  • Support the Head of Sport to successfully achieve objectives set out in the Sport Strategy relating to student participation, athlete performance and partnerships.
  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of student sport, performance and partnerships, ensuring all Workplace Health, Safety and Wellbeing requirements and service standards are met.
  • Support implementation of the revised governance model and associated processes, administrative practices and systems to enable effective, efficient oversight of university-affiliated Sport Clubs.
  • Implement revised programs and initiatives to increase awareness and participation by students on-campus and online.
  • Under broad direction, manage the successful operation of our Elite Athletes Program and participation in the UniSport national competitions and events.

What we’re looking for:

  • Management experience in the sport sector including supporting young adults, coaching or managing teams and organising competition activities.
  • Experience in successfully managing people, with the ability to create a positive working environment that enables performance and achievement of objectives.
  • Demonstrated capacity to engage effectively and build strong and productive partnerships with a range of stakeholders both internal and external to the university, including local and state government representatives, sporting organisations and sponsors.
  • Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills, with a proven record of successful collaborative practice and capacity to work constructively with a diverse range of people.
  • Strong data analysis capabilities and experience in the efficient provision of management reports and briefing papers, including operating procedures, contracts, risk analysis and papers for decision making.
