Are you passionate about animal welfare and ready to make a meaningful impact in research and education? Charles Sturt University is looking for a dedicated Animal Welfare Officer to lead and support best practice in the care and use of animals across our teaching and research programs.

In this vital role, you'll be the go-to expert for animal welfare advice, working closely with staff and researchers to ensure ethical and responsible treatment of animals. You'll help shape policies, provide technical guidance, and promote a culture of continuous improvement and compassion. Your work will be guided by national codes and legislation, and you'll play a key part in upholding the highest standards of animal care.

This position is central to our commitment to ethical research and education. You’ll support the Animal Ethics Committee with expert advice, help investigate and manage adverse events, and contribute to training and education that embeds animal welfare into everything we do.

About you

  • A degree in veterinary science including eligibility for veterinary registration in NSW, with proven experience in animal welfare, ethics, or research environments, OR postgraduate qualifications in animal behaviour and welfare
  • Strong knowledge of legislation and codes governing animal care and use
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across disciplines
  • Committed to ethical practice, continuous improvement and education
  • A current and valid Australian driver's license
