About this role

Our National Tax Digital Consulting team is responsible for delivering robust data solutions to complex business and financial issues facing our clients. The team is responsible for deploying advanced data analytics techniques on high volume, unstructured data sources whilst developing intelligent data models that automate complex calculations and provide insights on key risk factors to a client’s business operations, particularly in the areas of payroll recalculation and taxation.

Additionally, you will work closely with other GT service lines in our firm, providing support for complex analytics and dashboards on emerging market issues to deliver optimum outcomes for Grant Thornton’s clients.

Your responsibilities will be focused on producing the engagement outcomes for clients with involvement across a broad range of activities including:

Key responsibilities

  • Develops an approach to the scope of work requested from the client and articulates this approach, requirements, any assumptions, and findings to the client in a clear manner. 
  • Allocates responsibilities and guides team members in the delivery of the client engagement, including advising on appropriate tools and frameworks for workstreams.
  • Reviewing and quality checking the work of more junior team members, and providing guidance and constructive feedback to further develop the capability of the data analytics team.
  • Understanding client objectives, risks and compliance requirements and clearly communicating those to the team both at kick off and throughout engagement to ensure deliverables are tailored to clients’ needs
  • Confidently leading team and allocating resources to meet project objectives whilst overseeing the execution and providing regular updates to clients on budget and timings
  • Writes in an accurate, clear and informative manner, constructing communications and written materials that meet the needs of the audience with limited guidance.

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven Project Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage data projects within set timelines and budgets, with a strong emphasis on project management and transparent reporting.
  • Professional Experience: A solid track record of working in a professional service firm or large corporate environment, managing a high-performing analytics team. The team should focus on data transformation, manipulation, and analysis to deliver actionable outcomes.
  • Problem-Solving Mentality: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to effectively translate client outcomes into data processes, bridging the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Mentorship: A passion for mentoring and shaping the careers of junior team members.
  • Client Focus: Strong client focus with the capability to handle multiple engagements simultaneously, providing reliable advice, guidance, and insights that are easily understood.
  • Technical Proficiency: Moderate to high experience with Alteryx, Python, Power BI, Databricks, or similar data analytics software. Experience in data transformation using Alteryx is a plus.
  • Specialized Experience: Previous experience in payroll remediation, wage theft analysis, superannuation, or long service leave (LSL) is advantageous.
  • Educational Background: A university degree in Business Analytics, Economics, Statistics, Accounting, Mathematics, or a related field is preferred.
