The position of Director of President’s Office in the President’s Office (Ref.: 531498) is available for applications. 

The Role

The Director of President’s Office (“DPO”) is a senior executive position serving as the strategic advisor, counsel and senior aide to the President & Vice-Chancellor (“President”). This senior leadership role requires exceptional organizational skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to provide expert counsel and guidance on a wide range of university matters. The DPO will play a pivotal role in shaping the direction and vision of the University. The appointee will provide principal support to the President with duties including but not limited to:

  • Manage and prioritize the flow of critical business matters and correspondence on behalf of the President.
  • Coordinate the President’s internal and external communication efforts, including interactions with the government, the University Grants Committee and the public relations.
  • Establish and nurture trusted relationships with the President, Senior Management Team (“SMT”) and key stakeholders.
  • Provide expert strategic support and counsel to the President on a broad spectrum/cross-disciplinary university initiatives and priorities; including the formulation and implementation of long-term plans, strategies and policies which will have a significant and long-term impact to the University. Support the implementation of the University’s growth plans in Hong Kong and in the region.
  • Function as a key contributor to driving the vision, mission, and desired culture for the University, and to plan for continuous improvements and organizational development. Recommend and implement the desired structure, systems and processes in alignment with the university strategic goals.
  • Collaborate closely with an expanded and strengthened SMT to drive strategic development and achieve academic and operational excellence across the university. Recommend important policy decisions to the SMT and/or Council or relevant committees and be directly accountable to them on these policy matters.
  • Oversee and lead the annual planning process for the President’s strategic initiatives and key objectives. Take a proactive role in spearheading these initiatives.
  • Represent the President in high-level university meetings, committees, and external engagements.
  • In conjunction with Chief of Staff, manage the budget, resources, and day-to-day operations of the President’s Office, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in all activities.
  • To provide leadership and management responsibility for the President’s Office.

Qualifications and Qualities

  • A good university’s degree, preferably with a postgraduate qualification, and at least 10 to 15 years’ relevant management experience in tertiary education or relevant organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Chinese.
  • Outstanding people skills with the ability to engage, influence and build strong partnership with stakeholders at all levels. Ability to command respect and instill trust.
  • Demonstrated excellence in leadership and management skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving abilities and results-driven.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Possess a good understanding of the University’s history, its operations and future vision and mission.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, analyze complex situations, and advise the President on strategies and making informed decisions.

What We Offer

The appointment will be made on a fixed-term full-time contract, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme totalling 15% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
